Warmest June on record

The Met Office have issued a pretty interesting summary of Junes weather.
https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/about-us/press-office/news/weather-and-climate/2023/fingerprints-of-climate-change-on-june-temperature-records

In it they conclude that it was almost 1c warmer than the previous record. The previous 3 records were separated by 0.1c. Their study shows that climate change makes these sort of statistical jumps more likely than in the past and will make them increasingly more likely into the future.

Oh good 😊

Oh bad 🤓.

We had lots of high pollution days too, linked to the high temperatures, lack of wind in certain areas. Which is bad for all of us but particularly bad for others with asthma and other respiratory issues.

FourTeaFallOut · 03/07/2023 16:03

I'm pretty sure that should come with a heavy caveat for the North East.

FourTea It isn't looking at any one location, but rather, the mean for the UK. The regional values haven't been published yet. They will appear here.

Junes temperatures had a pretty terrible effect on many of our waterways with reportedly unprecedented numbers of fish dying off. A combination of heat, algal bloom, poor water quality and thunderstorms.

Water shortages led to schools having to close in the SE, this due to a number of factors, including a prolonged dry spell and the heat.

Thankfully at least we aren't repeating the heat of last July!

Apart from a week and a half up here I don't feel it's been particularly warm or even hot.

AmbleInAnnBoleyn · 03/07/2023 21:09

When you add in the sea warming alarmingly and the lack of insects, it starts to feel a bit bleak.

DuesToTheDirt · 03/07/2023 21:12

Scary. Water running low in Scotland of all places, fish dying from the heat, crops wil struggle...

Singleandproud · 03/07/2023 21:16

Most of Norfolk is still in drought from last year so if it carries on being dry (ignoring the current rain today the first time in weeks) were a bit stuffed.
