Please can you help settle an argument between DP and I, we are debating which week to book our summer camping holiday? I want to pick the first week of the school holidays (late July), he wants to go in August.

I think that the weather is usually warmer and drier in July then August is colder and rainy. I have noticed this for the last few years since we've had school age children. He thinks that it is random.

So who do you think is right?

(Apologies - only just seen your post)
I think both months can provide nice weather but if you haven't booked anything yet, my feeling is that I would go for something in July, mainly because it's closer to the longest day. By the time you get to August, you can still get nice warm days but you're heading towards late summer/nights drawing in, with the feeling that Autumn is coming as you go through the month.

july is best. august can be cold and rainy.

Last year first 2 weeks were best weather last year (we went last week of July and first week August and got pretty good weather in South West then it seemed to rain a lot of rest of holiday). However, we've not gone for those weeks this year due to risk of close contact isolation during first 10 days but expecting rain.

Plus it’s nice to be able to escape with the children somewhere as soon as school finishes, you get the schools out feeling too!
