Sudden stratospheric warming?

Is it as scary as it sounds. I've read about it online, but could anyone explain it in simple terms, please?

It concerns the stratosphere here and the area of it above the North Pole. For an explanation, I was watching (only came out yesterday and probably explains things in a better/simpler way than I could!) It does have the 10 day forecast but about half-way through, it has a decent explanation of what a SSW is and how it might affect us.
