I wish you could have joint thread starters! Gloria and I will be hosting this years snow watch and tag teaming with amateur weather forecasts. When reading them, please bear in mind that we are both amateurs with busy day to day lives, but we will do our best.

Please remember snow is notoriously difficult to forecast in this country as it often falls under marginal conditions.
When a forecast matters please do check with the Met Office first.

After a taste of winter already for some in the east, this mornings GFS model sticks with the winter weather theme we’ve been noticing for a few days for late Thurs 7th onwards, with a significant low pressure looking to bring in some cold and potentially rather snowy weather. Indeed, there is the potential for this to be accompanied by some very strong winds.

At the moment GFS plays around with the exact location of this low pressure, so it is too early to say where any snow may hit, but most places away from the far west seem to be in the potential firing line at the moment.

If some of the charts come off, the weather could be quite disruptive next weekend.

Just d oven from rural Northamptonshire to the West Midlands. It would normally take 40 mins but took 2 and a half hours! Was bloody scary at times and saw about 8 cars that had broken down or got stuck. So glad to be home. Stay safe everyone

On a lighter note, here are some snowmen!

If you've got snow, really don't go out unless you really have to, the roads are treacherous!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/12/2017 12:52

Shows the radar is fallible

Ds3's bus has been cancelled, older ones are watching anxiously!

My school invariably opens but I don't have a 4x4 so may struggle - lots of staff quite a way away because of property prices so think we'll be very down on numbers.

Trains into London cancelled from nearest station and no taxis either so dh is going to walk to another station 5 miles away this afternoon and stay in London overnight because he's due to catch a 7.30am Eurostar to Paris... Oh I love snow!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/12/2017 12:57

I'm keeping a very close eye on things, including the radar and the temperature and sticking to main roads.

We have snow socks for our car. They are very effective on lying snow.

Oh, forgot to mention, we're South Bucks and it's still snowing...

Maladicta · 10/12/2017 12:59

We lent our snow socks to various neighbours this am, they're now slightly shredded...

A friend's ds has his Oxford interviews starting tomorrow, fingers crossed he gets there ok. The nearest motorway is not a happy place atm.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 10/12/2017 13:01

Always the amount of idiots trying to drive down our road is unbelievable. Dh squished our car on to the drive last night (alongside his work van). I'm very glad he did. Next doors car has been hit & the girls over the road.
Dh & next doors dh are currently having a snow ball fight while the dc build a snowman. I'm inside with dc2(6) cooking a roast, watching junior & decorating the tree Grin
We've got snow forecast until 4am ish for south Warks is that sounding rightish OYBBK?

BrizzleDrizzle · 10/12/2017 13:32

Is there ever a day in Bristol when it doesn't rain?! ;-)

BrizzleDrizzle · 10/12/2017 13:33

NYX1 it's what snow does in Bristol - it pitches instead of sticking/lying/settling.

Nyx1 · 10/12/2017 13:35

oh, thanks.

I didn't know it rained a lot in Bristol. (Wanting to move but don't know where, so absorb info about everywhere and everything!!)

the sky's gone that colour that means "ready to snow very very muchly again for quite some time".

gttia · 10/12/2017 13:35

Heavy again here in se London. It's wet on the ground so I'm hopeful it won't stick!
