Travel disruption thread for Monday's storm.

A thread not for 'will it be stormy here' questions which can go in here but for specific travel updates.

To get the ball rolling:

Greater Anglia trains are allowing Monday ticket holders to travel tomorrow.

I'm going to call my sons SEN college and say he won't be in on Monday. He gets a taxi, and it's out in the Oxfordshire countryside, loads of trees and quite isolated. I'd rather have him home and feel embarrassed that I over-reacted than be worrying myself sick all day.

harticus · 26/10/2013 21:45

Oh no - planning to head to Norfolk by train on Monday.
They are bloody useless at the best of times!

OhYouWickedWickedWitch · 26/10/2013 23:08

I think it might be worth keeping an eye on the forecast thread especially in the morning. Latest gfs model run has done something very strange and practically cancelled the storm. It is one model out of many models and one set of model runs out of that. I think it might have gone a bit wrong, but it wrong but it might be one the first of the models to be right.

creature. If we discount the latest gfs (for the moment, it may be right) then tbh your greatest travel disruption would happen on the way in to London I think.

Ok thanks! I'm wary of stepping out as walk to station is down a tree lined road - some trees are very very big - plus an exposed bit past a cricket ground!

Im petrified of flying and my flight is due to take off at 9am on Monday. We have to leave at 6am when the storm is supposed to be at its worst. Im so scared:(

OhYouWickedWickedWitch · 27/10/2013 09:42

slick - always remember the airline pilot likes living too. Do check before you set off whether your flight is still happening though.

www.southernrailway.com/

^Extremely high winds are expected during the early morning of Monday 28th October. As a result, Network Rail has declared that there is a high risk of trees and debris falling onto railway lines and as a consequence, it may be unsafe to run trains while the winds persist.

Therefore, Southern and Gatwick Express services will not run tomorrow morning until it has been declared safe to do so.^

Southern Rail have cancelled trains tomorrow morning Hmm

I know it is all about safety but maybe they could have waited to see what happens before deciding to cancel things.

IShallWearMidnight · 27/10/2013 15:54

southern rail don't need bad weather to cancel trains, any weather of any kind will do it Sad

spiffysquiffyspiggy · 27/10/2013 16:43

East Coast trains cancelling some trains and all seat reservations tomorrow. If you have tickets for a specific train you can travel on the one before or the one after. 7.03 from Newcastle is one of those cancelled.

pigleychez · 27/10/2013 16:58

Capital connect has cancellations too. DH is not looking forward to his journey in the morning. Plus if he doesn't go in, he doesn't get paid! :(

ihatethecold · 27/10/2013 17:11

A5 in northamptonshire, near long buckby is closed due to a tree being blown over.
in both directions

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/10/2013 17:21

Any one heard about the airports yet? I read that heathrow are suspending its night time ban so transatlantic flights can land early.

I read too that London overground are suspending service til 9am at the earliest but I can't find any proof.

spiffysquiffyspiggy · 27/10/2013 17:26

There was a message saying London overground suspended on national rail website.

BillyBanter · 27/10/2013 17:33

Trains going from London to the south coast will be quieter on a Monday morning than in the opposite direction won't they? I'm wondering if loads of people will be shunted onto my train from earlier cancelled ones.

If there is any service at all, that is.

susiegrapevine · 27/10/2013 17:39

Great I normally drive to work but dh needs the car to run my dad's business just now wondering if I will actually be able to get to work grrr! Canceling the bloody trains before anything has happened ridiculous!

ihatethecold · 27/10/2013 17:41

if you go on twitter OYBBK. there is lots of info about the overland london trains not running

jimijack · 27/10/2013 17:46

Traveling with a caravan from the northwest to south Wales on Monday. Any ideas if wind will be there?

cloudskitchen · 27/10/2013 17:58

Husbands 7am flight out of Heathrow already showing as cancelled.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/10/2013 18:01

jimijack - what sort of timings do you have?

jimijack · 27/10/2013 18:16

We were going to head off late morning, lunch time.
Looks like south Wales is hit badly.

TheDoctrineOfAnyFucker · 27/10/2013 18:19

South west trains issuing timetable at 2100 tonight, but not running anything before 0800 tomorrow.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/10/2013 18:33

jimi, it should be through by the time you get closer to Wales. however obviously checking traffic and weather reports before you set off is a good idea.
