This meteor shower happens every year and early tomorrow morning is its peak. Bit more info here and whereabouts in the sky to look, here.

So let's hope for some clear skies!

Sky is clearing nicely here :)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/08/2013 21:00

In fact, what a superb night! Those in the far SE will have to be patient and wait until closer to midnight. Those in the west have the best chance around midnight before a weather front moves in close to dawn. NW Scotland struggles.
There are bits and bobs of clouds about but nothing too bad.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 12/08/2013 21:03

About 90% clear sky here (Hampshire), just a few streaks of mackerel clouds. I went out last night and only saw 1 (about 11.30) but it was much cloudier.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/08/2013 21:06

It would be a good night whoknows.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/08/2013 21:06

Should not would. Stupid fingers!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 12/08/2013 21:10

I bought some weatherproof beanbags for the garden a few months ago and they are absolutely perfect for this sort of thing, lie back on them and they are all comfy and warm, I nearly fell asleep out there last night Smile.

GloriaSmud · 12/08/2013 21:13

Lovely clear sky here too (Leicester.) I spent a few minutes looking eastwards at 2am ish this morning and saw 'nuffink', but then we've got the problem of trying to get away from street lights so although I'll probably go and have a look later, I'm not really hopeful that I'll see anything.

purple is a bit rusty with this MN lark Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/08/2013 21:24

I think you will get a window of opportunity later purple.

JemimaMuddledUp · 12/08/2013 21:34

It was raining here (west Wales) early evening so I thought we'd be out of luck, but it has cleared nicely now.

capitola · 12/08/2013 21:37

Thanks so much OP for reminding me of this. DH and I usually spend a happy few hours lying on the trampoline watching this and I promised my eldest last year that he could join us to watch it in 2013.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 12/08/2013 21:38

Just been out to see the international space station go by, lots of stars and a fabulous moon. Still a bit of cloud around the edges but clear overhead.

Perihelion · 12/08/2013 22:07

Spotted one shooting star last night, letting the dogs out. Tonight's looking a bit too cloudy atm in Edinburgh. But the clouds have been mental today. Always looking like they're about to soak us, but nothing but a small shower.

Perihelion · 12/08/2013 22:39

Just seen another, impressed as it's about 80% cloud cover and a fecking spotlight for the Edinburgh Festival and fireworks and a helicopter for the Tattoo.

JemimaMuddledUp · 12/08/2013 22:58

Lovely clear sky, surrounded by darkness (rural area), lots of stars, just no shooting ones. Yet.

nomorecrumbs · 12/08/2013 23:18

Just seen two but they were in completely the opposite direction to what Google Sky View app said they were :\ more like 90 degrees to the left of the Big Dipper.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/08/2013 23:24

I saw 4 which is v. Impressive with my eyes. Also saw what was probably the international space station which was super bright.

elastamum · 12/08/2013 23:26

Have seen a couple - beautiful starry sky here and no streetlights Grin

GloriaSmud · 12/08/2013 23:31

Just stood outside and having said I didn't think I'd see any because of the street lights, I saw 3 in the space of 10 minutes!

Just come back in with ds1 - spent an hour outside on the trampoline watching - counted over 30! Smile

Ds was really chuffed as he had never seen shooting stars before.

Its a gorgeous night out there ( Cotswolds)

JemimaMuddledUp · 12/08/2013 23:35

They seem to have slowed down now, but we were seeing at least one a minute for a while. Really beautiful.

culturemulcher · 13/08/2013 00:05

Beautiful starry night here (East) - saw shooting stars in about 15 minutes.

OP Flowers for reminding me and for showing me which part of the sky to look at.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 13/08/2013 08:03

We only saw 3 in half an hour Sad
