Hi
Im in South Yorks and I think there was a mini twister or durt devil this evening at 6:30 pm.

There is no breeze here, its really hot and then all of a sudden there was enought wind to blow the washing off line, nock over the clothes rack and the dust in the car park next to our small garden went up in a funle.

It only lasted about a minute then back to no breeze and hot.

Could this be a mini twister or durt devil?

(It was kind of scary)

dust devil :)
tornadoes (twisters) come from a convective storm cloud and work their way down from the cloud base. dustdevils are caused by heating of the ground good explanation.
They can be quite powerful and there are some spectacular youtube videos.
I think they are fun Grin

A rather powerful one in Reading has hit the news hits a school

Please ignore the reporter calling it a mini-whirl wind. It was a dust devil. The meteorologist from the Uni of Reading is the correct one.
