US Winter Storm Nemo

Forecasters are saying it could be New England's worst snow storm in decades, hitting the eastern bits of the US and Canada atm. Report and pictures here and The Weather Channel are having updates here.

I've been keeping a bit of an eye on it. Are Boston still forecast to get 3ft of snow? We were contemplating that earlier - imagine the implications!

We're 60 miles from Boston. We got about 2 1/2 feet here. We also experienced hurricane-force winds that literally shook the house. There was zero visibility during the blizzard-very eerie last night !

We lost electricity for 18 1/2 hours ( from 10:30 Friday night until 5:00 this evening ) and were grateful that we use gas for heating and cooking ( it's frigidly cold here ) People in some other areas are still without power and may not have it restored for several days. [ sad ]

Hope that the Groundhog Day predictions are true and that spring will come early this year !

Oh blimey, Helena ~ 2 1/2 ft seems such an unimaginable amount of snow. There's some facts about Nemo state by state here (Boston's had its fifth highest snowstorm on record!)

It sounds like it must have been really scary at night! I can't imagine such conditions.

Thanks, Gloria. We're all safe here, though things are not quite back to normal yet-most businesses and schools will be closed until Tuesday, and no local bus service until then. But we are so lucky compared to all the people still without power.

BadKitten, yes, it was a bit scary ! It was very isolating because we have no wireless, so when the power went, so did Internet access. Then our battery-operated radio had to choose that night to die. Our only contact with the outside world was through our cell phones, but we mostly kept them off to conserve them in case of emergency. And the wind sometimes sounded like wolves howling !
