I see that you've had some pretty extreme flooding today. Anyone with a rain gauge out there?.

I hope that things aren't too bad for you all though they do look grim on the news. Take care.

What I don't understand is why the met office didn't issue a red alert for those in the path of the storms once they saw what was happening.

It's been awful! They closed off the Tyne Tunnel, coast road and half the roads in our town, No rain gauge, apologies but have put a few pics on profile.

It's been bloody awful! Took me 5 hours to travel 5 miles earlier. I think the local news said there had been 1/3 of a months rain in 15 minutes earlier. It was just ridiculous.

What a nightmare for you both! Those photos show how shocking the flooding was. How long did the rain last - did it come in torrential bursts?
I hope that it has subsided somewhat this morning.

The really heavy rain lasted about 30 minutes and was torrential for all that time, But it was raining for a good couple of hours. The thunder and lightening was just amazing!
I'm a bit further south now - I was visiting friends up there when it hit, but down here it's just a normal day.

Thats really useful to know, thank you emandlu.
