Seems like parts of Coventry have also been hit by the severe storms.

Any reports from people in that location please?

I'm not but not too far away and we had bit of a storm passing over just after lunch. Now the sun is out so the house is back to baking hot again.

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 28/06/2012 15:32

It shows how localised these things can be :)

It was awful

Storm drains in the road were all up and gushing out water.

Closed off two shopping centres in nuneaton because of flooding and leaking.

It had gone all super sunny about 20 minutes ago but has just started raining again.

Oh and the hail was big my cousin is moaning about the dents in his car!

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 28/06/2012 15:47

Can you persuade your cousin to put in a report to torro, either on their website or to their fb page please.
What have you heard about the shopping centres?

GeekLove · 28/06/2012 15:49

Oh yes. There was a spectacular cloudburst at 12.40 with 3cm hail and gust winds. Now it is sunny and humid so am wondering if there will be more rain later.

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 28/06/2012 15:53

The storms are in the east midlands now, but there does possibly look to be a weak one in the central midlands.

Nice line extending north east from Liverpool which normally I'd be quite excited by if it weren't for the midlands storms.

Which two shopping centres in nuneaton ABF?

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 28/06/2012 17:40

Bump,
I'm going out for a bit, back later. Don't forget, reports of these storms and any subsequent damage would be very much appreciated by torro

Just found this thread on here. I am in Keresley on the outskirts of Coventry and can confirm that there were some pretty impressive hailstones around lunchtime! Being the sad person that I am, I took a photo of the one that flew down the chimney and landed at my feet. It wasn't the largest hailstone I had ever seen but it was about 1" across. I do remember being at primary school and being caught in a worse hailstorm in the 1980's.

We had some localised flooding on a very aptly named road nearby (Watery Lane!) We have a culverted river that runs close to Watery Lane and I would guess that the water levels rose faster than the drains could cope with.

I also noticed the strange orangey dust on the car this morning that others commented on in another thread.

Sun is out now, but the clear blue skies of an hour or so ago have given way to more cloud. I have a feeling that we may be in for more.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 28/06/2012 20:48

Abbeygate got flooded, They had barriers up and Pete the security guard was looking rather busy.
Someone told me Ropewalk was shut off because of leaks in the roof (leaks in ropewalk roof is bad enough when it's just a misty drizzle so God knows what it was like) and a health and safety risk because of very wet floor.

Kitten I can't get in touch with my cousin sorry.

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 28/06/2012 21:02

Don't worry abf :)

Thank you for the report deepbreath, I'm not surprised there was some flooding. The dust was from the sahara.

We're in Solihull, not Coventry but we also had a mahoosive storm earlier. First thing we had the orange dust which I thought was a little odd on my way out then at about ten o'clock the skies went that weird greeny brown colour and then it went a bit mental. Constant thunder, ridiculous quantities of rain, hailstones an inch across. It was all very exciting.
No structural damage but all the roads were flooded.

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 28/06/2012 22:37

Thank you for your report. :) what an extraordinary day!!!

grumpykat · 28/06/2012 22:41

No structural damage, but about 10 local schools had to send all pupils home. I know of at least 5 that are shut for repairs tomorrow- that's clearly structural damage

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 28/06/2012 22:44

Cripes. The scale of this is huge.

I do need to sleep, wish I was bionic, but will say goodnight.

How is everyone doing this morning? Yesterday must seem surreal.
