Sorry to post in weather but as I live near the coast where can I find the altitude (above sea level) of my house.
Also,is sea level an average or what?

I think GPS devices (eg in iPhones) give an altitude but not sure how accurate.

Is this about flood risk? If so this might be useful.

Nope tried both of them - useless. Must be something.........

It's about flooding. My house is between the sea and an area on the south coast that was badly flooded (think hospital). I think the house is on an old spit/spur of sand but not sure.

I wonder if Memory Map would do it ... if my DH was in I'd check, he's got it on his iphone and PC. I think it might, by interpolation of the OS map contours. Believe you can get a free trial license....

Heck, that's difficult... there are tide predictor apps but how you factor in rain from the land side and possible surges from the sea side I don't know.

If I was you I'd PM OhYouBadBadKitten, she knows loads about meteorology so might be clued up on this.

Hope all is well!

Thanks Grimma I think you can see where I'm coming from....or floating off to.... The sea is at one end, the flooding at the other.

if you look at an OS map then the contours are pretty good. streetmap has contours on it. Just shove your post code into it. You are very welcome to pm me your postcode if you are struggling to work it out.
Also the gps in our car has it, in the set up part of the system.

Thanks OYBBK just got it sorted. Very interesting article in the Times (T2) that deals with issues of flooding that are not river or sea related.
Fascinating firm JBA Risk management also calculates the effect of standing water/runoff etc
