Monday 12th September looks possibly jolly nasty weather wise for Scotland

One of the models (GFS) shows a very nasty low (I think its ex-hurricane Katia) for Monday for Scotland. Now Monday is a long way off and it may well not happen but the potential is there, so well worth keeping an eye on the met office warnings page as we get closer.

Thanks for the info kitten. It is windy here but nothing that would ordinarily bother me and not constantly.

I will keep the smelly ones in until all risk is past though Grin

I gave up work this morning as it was difficult to even stand up against the wind.I went out again at 12.30 to find 2 huge branches had come down from the tree at the bottom of the drive.Thankfully it is 65ft from the house so no damage caused.

DD1 has cross country after school today-that'll be interesting!

Wind is increasing in Edinburgh now. Not much rain though. Think it's peaking here about teatime.

oh crumbs mirage - not a good time for your work!

This afternoon's school run was much more interesting than this morning's - and not in a good way.

I had not thought that a double 3 wheeler buggy with the combined weight of 2 toddlers could so easily get airborne.. Shock. We are back at home and have had hot chocolate which as far as my troops are concerned cures all ills Grin.

Cripes PD, that's a bit too exciting! DS1 got blown over as well on the way back from school - but he is as light as a feather so I'm quite surprised he came back down to earth so quickly, tbh.

It's funny though, it actually doesn't seem to be that windy. Very windy, but I'm sure that storm last term was worse than this. We had loads of branches down and a tree in the school playground then, and atm it just seems to be small twiggy branches and loads of leaves.

blimey dogwood, where are you??

wind is getting gustier here, but on the plus side, it appears to be stopping the rain from coming to much. Tay and Forth Bridges are restricted to cars only, but that's not hugely unusual. I am about 30 miles north of Dundee.

We are very exposed though so to be fair we are quite used to it.

I might have been exaggerating a tiny bit for dramatic effect Grin, but 2 out of 3 wheels of the buggy were off the pavement when we went around a corner into a narrow lane which is well known to act as a kind of wind tunnel Grin!

From the safety of my warm house it seems to me that the gusts of wind are the bigger problem rather than sustained wind speeds but I am really quite clueless about the weather.

Cats, we are in semi-rural South Lanarkshire.

Neighbours house has lost roof tiles (West Lothian), and I' secretly hoping the wind blows away all the weeds in my garden, but it is unlikely! They are like triphids!

I am not going out at all! Even though I am in the Catsmamma camp of balast :o!

My 4x4 nearly blew over on the drive home. Bits of tree coming down everywhere. Chicks snug under their mum in the run.

I can't find any up-to-date stuff of how the storm took shape overnight. The winds are still quite high near us (Pentlands) this morning.

How are you all this morning? the storm is now to moving to our NE. Met office still have some yellow warnings out as although the wind has eased it will pick up for a time again today.

Then a fairly quiet week, though unsettled at times for some until we turn our eyes to next Monday/tuesday where another storm lies waiting in the wings (will it skirt north of the uk or hit us? time will tell)

Hope everyone's OK after yesterday's storm and keeps safe today.

Some storm pictures here. (Apologies as always for the Daily Mail link!)

OYBBK ~ thought I caught on met-monkey that there might be another storm heading our way for next week.

My dh was stranded last night (he works in Dunoon but we live in Glasgow)

Ferries were off, only road out shut by a car crash!! (unless he took the 4hr long way round!).

He stayed over in a B&B, the noise outside our house was awful last night, I'm going back to bed for a bit now kids are at school!

it does look possible Gloria, though it is too early to determine whether it will hit us or not. Ex-hurricane Maria I believe.

Fortunately the models show the next ex-hurricane a) less deep and b)further north than ex-katia. Good news.
