Monday 12th September looks possibly jolly nasty weather wise for Scotland

One of the models (GFS) shows a very nasty low (I think its ex-hurricane Katia) for Monday for Scotland. Now Monday is a long way off and it may well not happen but the potential is there, so well worth keeping an eye on the met office warnings page as we get closer.

Aw bugger. I am supposed to be travelling from the North of Scotland down to Edinburgh between 1pm and 7pm tomorrow Hmm by train. Don't want to get stuck and am on my ownsome too (wonder if work would understand if I stay in bed and hide under the duvet???)

Right PIL visit cancelled! Now starting to worry about the Forth Road Bridge (alternative is to take the rail bridge, but surely trains can blow off just like cars?)
Thanks for posting this btw.

You are welcome :)
The good news is, that the low is deepening a little less than forecast. The not quite so good news is that it is tracking a little further south, putting more of northern england at risk (as well as southern Scotland)

We had big branches down in the wind on Tuesday, and the roof off my shed blew off.I gave up work as it was too wild to do anything with stuff blowing all over.I'm going to go out and move the garden furniture after reading this thread.I don't know what to do about the pony-she doesn't like being in the stable.

We live in a village surrounded by trees that are 100 years plus old-I'm betting some of them will come downSad.

OYBBK,we have a power cut pack too-it doesn't take much to knock out the cables around here.

We are in Cumbria & it's been wild on & off for a week. Most of the garden strapped down already!

I'm glad I saw this thread - never knew that about trampolines - but am now clueless as to how to tether a 12' trampoline. Only acquired it a couple of months ago and haven't had to face this kind of thing before. Confused

I think I have persuaded DH to go and fetch the garden furniture in.

Not too bad so far, Im only just in the Amber area now, whereas before I was much deeper into it. Its moved quite south, hasnt it?

Report
Catsmamma · 12/09/2011 06:48

Well we are "windy" I'd say

Have had it much worse in the past though so not worried yet!

Morning all, I see that it is just starting to pick up now, so catsmamma make the most of it! Western coasts of Scotland picking up to 70mph pretty quickly with it really picking up in nE England later on this afternoon and evening.

purpleturtle - if you have any heavy rocks or other stuff then, if your trampoline legs are the right sort you can shove them over the legs.

keep an eye on the warnings (if you see any significant changes please update them and remember - whatever the met office says overrides what I say when it comes to judging your own safety - remember I'm strictly amateur!

I'll be back this afternoon. Stay safe everyone

I bounced out of bed at 6.30am expecting storm but everything was quite still. (Amber area, South East Scotland). However, it's started to pick up in the last hour.

Is anyone on the West Coast or in NI? What's it like outside your window?

Sunny here just now Confused - breezy, but not unpleasant. Maybe I will do the schoolrun without getting too wet Grin. I am in Lanarkshire btw.

No idea how to tether our mahoosive trampoline

It's picking up here in Cheshire. My 9 5-day old chicks and their mum have extra shelter on their run and now that they've had food and water will shelter under mum or back in their little house. I'll be glad when its over.

It's quite gusty here on the west coast of Wales. Not too bad at street level but I saw a flock of geese having trouble getting where they wanted to as the wind was being funneled up the river. They sounded most put out! We are a little bit below the yellow warning area though.

Look after those chicks you hear Grin

DM is staying with us thankfully (although it may be the only thing she talks about all day!)
Thanks for the link, it shows her house is just north of the Amber, hope her horse is OK

Breezy but nothing too bad yet in NI, according to my mum!

Report
brambleschooks · 12/09/2011 10:00

waves at losty. Grabs back onto solid object to avoid flying away.

All chicks currently under mum hen's copious bosom.

I am working in my attic study, which is interesting. I have never heard the windows of the house straining quite so much. I am looking forwards to checking out the barometer (real and also electronic one) to see what sort of drop we are getting.

All still and only slightly damp so far in the NE of Scotland. I hope it comes to nothing as the majority of the rabbits are bored and want back outside and my kitchen stinks of rabbit.

Wind picking up in Greater Manchester. No real rain though.

midnightexpress · 12/09/2011 10:18

We're in Glasgow and it's actually not too bad here this morning. Drizzling and windy, but that other gale earlier in the summer was much worse than this. Forecast is for things to deteriorate this afternoon though so we'll see what happens. On the thread in chat it sounds as if Wales is getting it pretty badly at the moment, so perhaps it'll be further south than they thought?

Report
PacificDogwood · 12/09/2011 13:14

Well, wind has picked up here, not raining too hard, but horizontal: my favourite - NOT.

We have put all lightweight plastic tat toys into the shed and the trampline will have to fend for itself...

Report
midnightexpress · 12/09/2011 13:30

Yep, getting worse now. It's all gone a bit dark...

Still windy but not awful here. But i wasn't expecting it to be too bad, we are in the yellow area.

We were out all lunchtime (work in school).

well, it does seem to be going pretty much as forecast, with the track a little further south than was showing yesterday. Still on track for the worst winds to be later on today and into tomorrow.

carrots - NE scotland misses the worst of this.

Even down south we are gusting to 40mph.
