Is this true?

Have heard mutterings but not seen anything believable (and I know it's still far off in weather terms).

Metcheck has us having blizzards here on Saturday.

But seriously, what are the chances?

winterpetunia · 13/02/2011 16:20

Have heard this too. TheWeatherOutlook are saying this about the coming week.

MrsKitty · 13/02/2011 16:22

nooooooooooooooooooo

supposed to go away half-term, postponed from Christmas because of the BLOODY SNOW

MarshaBrady · 13/02/2011 16:44

Interested too.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/02/2011 14:45

been keeping a close eye on this (mentioned the possibility I think in a recent thread?) There is still no real model consensus on whether the cold weather really makes a proper return or not. It is a real possibility but if I'm going to stick my neck out fully, I think that the most likely scenario as shown today would be for heavy hill snow and heavy rain for lowlands in central northern england. Keep an eye on the met office who are going for light snow down the nE side on Friday.

ColdHeartedBitch · 14/02/2011 14:51

That i can believe as we have just gone from green to white in a blink of an eye. Thankfully only hail and back to green after yet another heavy shower. It be cold out there.

However, I bloody hope not. I don't want any snow for next week. My week is crazy enough without snow. Whilst i am at it can i put in an order for less rain too

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/02/2011 14:53

hail is likely tomorrow too. The showers are pretty convective beefy ones atm.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/02/2011 17:31

hailing down our chimney - little black balls everywhere on the carpet

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/02/2011 08:25

With the usual caveat for Scotland at this time of year (where snow showers have been falling along with rain overnight leading to warnings for icy roads ) it does look increasingly likely that MILD wins this weekend with any laying snow showers being confined to hills in northern England and Scotland (Northern Scotland likely to see some snow as shown by today's models).

Oh, the irony! I've been watching the Alpine webcams like a hawk for the last month, praying for snow. There's finally a bit this week after the mildest, driest January for years. And here we are, possibly faced with not being able to take off on Saturday because of snow here???? Unbelievable.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/02/2011 08:59

I really at the moment don't think you will have an issue clam.

mankyscotslass · 15/02/2011 18:42

Oh well, no snow for us then. Sad

Am getting my snow fix by watching the Webcams on Mt Ranier and in Glacier National Park and Yellowstone!

For Sat BBC shows us as mild and wet, met office says cold and snowy Hmm

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/02/2011 18:52

hmm - maybe something snowyish for friday night for northern England showing up on the latest GFS. models are clearly really struggling with this.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/02/2011 07:28

still no real consensus. Met office are going for heavy rain, GFS shows things still a bit up in the air I think for saturday. no real doubt at all for the south - rain. I think that for northern England it still ends up as being rain in low land areas and snow on hills, but I am by no means certain, temps are right on the edge.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2011 08:40

Not looking like a snow event :)

ajandjjmum · 17/02/2011 08:48

It's like the before Christmas thread - you saved my life and enhanced my reputation no end there 'Snowy'!! Grin

Please could you arrange for the snow to keep away next weekend, because I NEED to travel to the Dales to meet DS so that we can celebrate his birthday - for some reason he thinks it's important that he spends his real birthday at uni!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2011 09:31
Grin

Will see what I can do!

I keep wobbling on this one. day time looks very mild but at night it gets a bit close - so hilly areas at night could still see some snow.

midnightexpress · 17/02/2011 09:35

Please no more snow. I had to get about a cm of ice off my windscreen the other morning - frozen rain. Seriously, a chisel would have been handy. Enough.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2011 09:44

I think people will be very surprised at how mild it will become next week. By the middle of the week widespread 14C. Alomost camping weather Grin

midnightexpress · 17/02/2011 09:55

Ooooh.

ajandjjmum · 17/02/2011 12:33

Great - so the fact that our heating hasn't been working for a week now isn't so bad! Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2011 14:59

Absolustely! see this as an energy saving opportunity Grin
