Snowy kitten, I expect you are planning a thread along these lines! But if not, any ideas what's going on??

The Met Office still have a warning out for heavy snow across the whole of the south, but our local forecast (N Oxon) has gone from heavy snow to no snow at all. Is this simply a forecasting nightmare?

We've got the same thing for Leicester. Not sure what the national/local TV forecasts are saying at the moment (a few days ago they were saying heavy snow for us) but we're covered by an orange warning for the weekend by the metoffice but then when I look at the 5 day forecast for our postcode, there's not a hint of snow mentioned!
Still think though that there is heavy snow coming our way from the direction of Wales and will move across the country.

Yep im the same we are nottinghamshire so we are in orange with the met office put our postcode into bbc weather and it gives sunshine tomorrow .

The Metoffice have updated their warnings and we're not covered by an orange warning now for tomorrow. We're covered by one for today 'til 3pm for heavy snow but I can't see that happening; the conditions aren't right.
I'm all now because we haven't had that much snow over the last few weeks and I was hoping it was going to be a snowy weekend!

The latest met office warnings have slid southwards for tomorrow, but there is an even greater note of uncertainty than usual in the wording :
Please note there are continued uncertainties about amounts and extent of snowfall, but there is the potential for widespread disruption to travel networks and sporting events.
Please monitor the Met Office website for possible updates to this warning

We've had quite a heavy snowfall this morning which came out of nowhere, but I think it may have been a band passing south east of you so maybe you won't get it. Is it not that cold with you? It's still -3 here.

winterpetunia I'm confused too.The forecast last night showed heavy snow,but by this morning the Met Office shows nothing.I don't know whether to get my shopping done today or not now.DH wants to go to Fosse Park and I don't fancy that in the snow.But I do want more snow as we haven't had that much and the dds were ill during the last lot and didn't get out in it.

Local TV lunchtime news forecast, well I don't really know what for tomorrow. Think it could be summed up with 'there could be snow but tune in tonight because there could be a totally different forecast!'
Mrs Cadillac ~ as I'm only 5 minutes from Fosse Park, I could give you an up-to-the-minute 'Fosse Park forecast', just by looking out the window tomorrow morning!

We were forecast snow in Hampshire. The MET office have downgraded us and the BBC think it's going to be sunny .

And a for not having a foot of snow.

They're just going to forecast the worst all the time now aren't they? Get us all excited, planning ahead and stockpiling food , then nothing, not a flake.

I was snow too - (south) east midlands missed most of it last time too. I could see snow clouds passing us by today.

We did get a little graupel though!

Too be honest none of the forecasters have a clue, where or when the snowfall will be.

Every updated chart that comes out- if I'm right 4 times a day, is showing the snow moving north in one update then south in another and so on.

It really does just come down to being prepared literally anywhere in the country.

For example the Met Office gave my area a flash weather warning this morning at 10am that a heavy snow shower could be expected around lunchtime/early afternoon. I looked out my window and it was happening right then. I went out to the next town (3 miles away) and halfway there it was snowing just an odd flake here and there.

I wish they could make up their minds. We keep changing from yellow to amber and back every couple of hours. Currently on a flash weather warning with Met office but BBC advises just a a bit of "light" snow overnight for my postcode!

I need to get to London from Devon tomorrow and back again on Monday - both places look pretty snowy tomorrow, thankfully they we'll be on major roads. I normally love it when it snows but this time it's causing lots of stress!

fatsatsuma, I've been discussing it on the thursday thread, one day has merged into the other.

The problem is - every different weather model, at every run almost has had the low pressure for tomorrow and Sundays one in a different place. There is no way that forecasters can be precise about what will happen - the position makes a huge difference as to who gets snow, how much and when. So not one we can blame the met office on. some things are still very very difficult to predict with current computer models.

I'm afraid its a case of keeping an eye on

I'm off to look at the models now to see if there is any consensus yet.

[[Ok, tomorrow, best guess at the moment (which seems to tie GFS, UKMO kind of roughly together) as to where the greater snow risk lies.

Saturday:
Snow Wales and NW over night. Then that moves to engulf the SW, the Midlands (unsure about Midlands) and the south and SE by lunchtime. (may include EA) Also either southern or western scotland or both.

sunday:
Mainly a southern coast feature and coastal NE (including Scotland)

By far the best bet is to check out the warnings pack carefully if you are travelling - being prepared to be stuck for a long time and just generally Be Prepared.

And we are back to orange again.

Yes, I'd say our local TV forecaster, the aptly named Sara Blizzard (ho yes, that really is her name!) looks 'unsure about the midlands' as well! According to her, we could get anything this weekend!

Ooh - we are orange for Friday and Saturday now and BBC has decided it's heavy snow tonight but none for Saturday or Sunday!!!

Snowy Kitten ( or anyone else) Looking at the met office forecast for the next couple of days, it show a really nasty-looking heavy bit of "rainfall" just south of Ireland. Is that heading our way? (gulp)

Thankyou winterpetunia,but dh risked it this afternoon and came back with a tumble drier and a new laptop.So we are ok for now.I still need to get into Leicester on Monday for a few last minute bits and bobs though,and according to the forecast we could have a foot of snow or nothing.

MIL just rang from up north [Chorley Lancs],just as the WI arrived at our house to do hand bell ringing.She says there is very heavy snow there,and we are meant to be going up on Wednesday-we got snowed off last year and didn't make it, so we'll see.
