Mum is in Renfrewshire, she woke to a blanket of snow and more falling.

I'm glad DH made it home last night!

snowedinthesticks · 06/12/2010 14:29

-16 at 8am here!
It's only -12 now. I'm not in Northern Scotland either just North Lincolnshire.
It feels so cold you need a scarf around your face to breathe. DCs back at school though.

My garden thermometer on the side of the shed in the back garden says it's about -2 and don't think it's got above that all day! And my wheelie bins (also keep in the back garden) keep freezing themselves shut! They need a good tug on the lid whenever I need to put anything in them!

Unwind · 06/12/2010 15:37

lots of people in Scotland have been stuck for hours now (according to my facebook updates).

with the precicted freeze tonight, it could be a real problem if they don't get moving soon

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 06/12/2010 16:38

:( Unwind - that sounds pretty serious :(

Petunia - I'm wedging my bins open a little with a couple of battens of wood.

THe AA have put a message on their phone lines saying that if you are at a residential adress when you call you will not get service for 24 hours due to unprecedented demand.

laughalot · 06/12/2010 17:39

My friend is in glasgow she set off for work got stuck on the motorway and it has taken her 10 hours to get home it should be 40 minutes.

Hulababy · 06/12/2010 17:52

Icy in Sheffield. Very icy.

The main roads are fine. However the traffic this morning was awful I guess everyone is having to sue the main roads and not side roads, so the traffic really built up to crawling speed.

The pavements are lethal to walk on in most places.

The side roads are getting there, The more they are used, the better they are getting. Some are still unpassable though, esp because of all the hills we have here in Sheffield.

I am still not using my car - I could just about get off the estate, the rout to work is clear but there;d be nowhere to park near work, so no point.

The temperature is supposed to rise to abot 5C by Friday so hopefully it will only be this week.

I'm in South Lanarkshire and we had maybe a foot of snow today. I spent a few hours this afternoon digging drives and shoving cars. My arms are knackered! We get a fair amount of snow here but I've never seen the roads so bad. There are many stories of people taking hours and hours to go short distances. No (school) nursery tomorrow but I'm still going to have to make an attempt to get to work.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 06/12/2010 18:06

Good grief runnervt. this has been an astonishing start to winter!

unfortunately the coming weekends milder interlude does not look like a prolonged one. The models are also not showing the warm up to be as great as they were yesterday. I would make the most of any thaw to get prepared for ny potential next spell.

i'm in central scotland and well fed up with the weather; no school for today and last week; self-employed so although I have flexibility re the kids no-one pays if I dont work
its very cold tonight, can't imagine the morning roads will be any good; I really really would like a decent thaw; tbh we're warm and safe at home so feel grateful for that

nymphadora · 06/12/2010 20:49

South Cumbria we had more snow this am but only a dusting. Pavements lethal but walking on busier rds ok. Made dh walk dd1 to school this am so she could walk on the roads.

runnervt · 06/12/2010 21:35

Think I'm going to have to downgrade my snow depth estimate from earlier (after discussion with dh!). Probably more like 8 inches.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 06/12/2010 21:55

snow is like that! I was convinced we had half a foot last week until I went out with ruler and found it was only 8cm.
