looks potentially nasty for Scotland and parts of northern England, severe gales expected.

ok, just to reiterate in case anyone is confused. There are two watch points really:

first is in the south - heavy rain, localised flooding over night and into the morning. \at the back end of that there looks to be the strong potential of very sharp convective line. \this will give rise to fierce but short lived squalls. Any damage or intersting obs from this please, please report here or even better to torro

Second to watch out for is in the north of England tomorrow evening with the main wind belt. Up to 80mph gusts. That is strong enough to cause power disruption and some structural damage. Take great care, particularly in the NW.

Well it was £100 to go through the tunnel, so I guess we will take our chances with the Greggs pasties.....

Borisismyhousespider · 10/11/2010 21:10

Which reminds me to get my torro log in sorted out!

mankyscotslass · 10/11/2010 21:13

Oh no I hate high winds ever since we lost ridge tiles in a squall about 7 years ago! Do u think it will b bad here? We are on the eastern edge of greater Manchester.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/11/2010 21:24

manky, I think it could be quite bad. winds will be between westerlies and south westerlies so I guess the vulnerability of your tiles depends on how exposed you are in that direction.

Erm, I'm flying to Dublin from East Midlands airport tomorrow evening. And I'm not a great passenger at the best of times

ChickensHaveNoLips · 10/11/2010 21:30
OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/11/2010 21:32

I suspect you will have some disruption I'm afraid. sorry chickens.

we could get some mn branded sick bags so everyone can recognise their fellow sufferers as being mn weather fiends.

Borisismyhousespider · 10/11/2010 22:15

Oooh chickens, that could be a very bouncy flight! I remember doing EMA DUB once and the only thing the passangers got was a twix quickly thrown at them! no drinks allowed, a tad too rough!

Borisismyhousespider · 10/11/2010 22:15

Passengers even!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/11/2010 22:16

final bump from me incaee anyone has somehow missed this. off to bed now, sleep well all.

MrsThisIsTheCadillacOfNailguns · 10/11/2010 22:56

Well after reading this,I'll not bother charging up my Ipod for work tomorrow. It is calm here in Leicetershire, with temps at 1c when I came in at 9.15pm.

I planted 9 trees this afternoon,I hope that they don't get snapped off in the high winds.Sad

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/11/2010 07:12

Mrscadillac - I think you will see gusts to 'only' around 50mph - no excuses now Grin

tits - looking at the raadar - quite possibly!

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/11/2010 07:15

no real update from me at the moment - only that the line of convection looks to get more oranised further south than yesterday (looking at met office invent) if that is accurate, then I think it is more likely that france will see the worst of the storms.

Shock radio 4 has just gone off the air - listening on fm - dh reckons the transmitter blew down Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/11/2010 07:16

Reporting in-southcoaat of dorset and I'm not sure how strong these gusts are but we have a southwesterly aspect, exposed and it is buffeting the house +++ and whistling round.
I hope everyone up north is ok if we are getting the 'milder' end if things!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/11/2010 07:31

up north will be about the same as down here in terms of wind until this evening - then they get the real nasty stuff. South and east have the worst of the rain this morning.

moonmother · 11/11/2010 07:51

Here in Bedfordshire we have woken up to a real grey morning.

Gusty wind and rain, although not heavy rain.

Pressure dropping at 990 at the mo.

Not looking forward to the walk to school.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/11/2010 08:09

looking in particular at the NW tonight - you are going to have a few hours of severe gales - 80mph gusts through form late evening until the early hours. nasty.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/11/2010 08:13

ok - I'm off out until this evening - please keep the thread alive in case someone has been living a hermit life up in the nw and doesn't know what is due to hit them tonight.

Right, off to walk down to the bus stop for the school bus.It looks horrible here-far windier than Monday.

MrsThisIsTheCadillacOfNailguns · 11/11/2010 08:56

Not much rain here, but the wind is very gusty and it feels miserable and cold.
