Quick heads up as its late, but tomorrow afternoon shows some potential for storms, particulalry in central southern England. More info in the am.

ok,
it still looks like some quite potent storms could pop up, especially in the south this afternoon. Lifted index also looks quite good along north eastern coasts too.

Any damage reports would be appreciated

it had better rain, I put grass seed down yesterday.

The washing won't get dry (me and the kids have d&v today ) but the poor guinea pig hasn't had any green grass for a while now.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 04/08/2010 09:34

I'm in the midlands. I demand storms!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/08/2010 09:34

you poor thing. It might as well rain then just to compound your misery. Hope you recover rapidly and grass grow quickly!

first warnings out for the day for the 'East midlands'

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/08/2010 12:35

seems to be pepping up in parts of Hampshire now and warnings have appeared for the south here

We've had a small downpour here but my grass seed still needs a good drink. We're not going anywhere today so for once I am happy for a drenching.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/08/2010 12:43

are you feeling any better?

OP posts:
Meglet · 04/08/2010 13:01

I think so. And the DC's are sleeping it off .

And my mum has come round to relieve the boredom.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/08/2010 13:06

good

pleased to see the sun here at the moment, we need a decent bit of solar input to get the storms going.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/08/2010 14:12

We have thunder and heavy rain. Hooray!

OP posts:
Meglet · 04/08/2010 14:15

So do we. My water butt is filling up nicely.

hippipotamiHasLost92lbs · 04/08/2010 14:16

Thunder and rain just starting here (Surrey) Had only just hung the washing out as the sky was bright blue!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/08/2010 14:19

apparenly a good cell near Winchester with hail.

might log off the main pc and go onto netbook, though it all seems to be cloud-cloud strikes at the moment here.

Can I just ask people around the Basingstoke, Whitchurch area to be on the look out for funnels please right nowish. A potentially very interesting storm around that area

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/08/2010 14:34

see this map and look at the line of storms that stretches from East Anglia, down to Basingstoke, Hants way. That last storm along the line near Basingstoke is the one I'm looking at. Because it is last in line, it has the potential to be very vigorous (each following storm takes energy from the storm ahead of it in this kind of situation). It can lead to interesting damage.

RustyBear · 04/08/2010 14:35

We've just had ours.....

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/08/2010 14:38

How was it RB?

OP posts:
sharbie · 04/08/2010 14:40

nothing apart from 5 mins heavy shower earlier - we are 4 miles from winch

PheasantPlucker · 04/08/2010 14:41

Thundering here! (SW London)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/08/2010 14:42

thanks Sharbie, it looks pretty tightly defined on the radar, bugger to be so close to storms and not get them!

OP posts:
RustyBear · 04/08/2010 14:43

Nothing very special - it got very dark and I feared the worst, but there was just one massive thunder clap, two or three minor ones, very heavy rain but quickly over; it all seems to have gone away again now... possibly heading for Basingstoke! (I'm in Wokingham btw)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/08/2010 14:44

moving quickly!! - heads up to those in the Petersfield area!

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/08/2010 14:44

(Basingstoke area now out of interest!)

someone i met at a party round here once told me the hill behind our house goes back to where the ice age ended (........??) we do seem to be on a sort of weather edge/cusp if there is such a thing.do i sound crazy?
if not,we may have missed this storm because of the ice age.
