Dd is 26 weeks old and the fun will begin on Saturday!

I am going to puree to start with and see how we get on.

Anyone else starting this weekend?

Well she turned her nose up at mash and avocado just now! She was really cross for some reason. So I gave her a banana which she ate happily and then started to mash into the potato.... so she is making her own odd combinations now

I know I am very glad we were able to start weaning before Christmas. It will just make the meal so much more fun with DD at the table too!

I just serve the mash up on her tray and let her shovel it in with her hands. I am going to try loading a spoon for her though... as this method doesn't work with yoghurt!

lauraloolajinglesalltheway · 16/12/2008 21:11

I dont think I could handle the mess of BLW!!

Dd has a muslin loosly tied round her neck so that it covers her completly when I feed her and thats puree!

Has it affected your dd's sleeping at night? Dd now wakes at 11pm for about an hour. Tonight we have given her a bottle of Hipp goodnight milk to see if that helps.

No her sleeping has stayed the same so far. Her pattern is to go to bed at 7 have a dreamfeed around 11ish, wake around 4 for another feed, then up for the day round 7.30.

She actually slept through (exclu the dreamfeed) two nights ago. I don't think this is because of weaning though as she slept through once before a couple of days before we started with solids.. so Im hoping its just a development thing which she is too slowly phasing in.

It is messy but to be honest at the moment it is not hard to keep on top of it. I am by no means an organised person but if I deal with it immediately and methodically it doesn't get out of hand.

Finger crossed for goodnight milk

lauraloolajinglesalltheway · 17/12/2008 09:55

It worked!! She slept until 4am before being awake enough to come into bed with me! She only winged a few times before that.

I not sure I could cope with the mess! I think I will brave some toast fingers on Sunday and see what happens...

Hi guys - such progress! Awesome stuff. After our setback last week I reverted to plain baby rice which is going down better - at least dd will open her mouth now! Will gradually add a bit of apple to that and go from there. On Sunday night she also came down with croup so she might have been feeling off colour in the few days before...

sasamax · 17/12/2008 12:53

Sorry to jump in on your thread.
I started BLW about 2 wks ago (can't work out how many wks she is - was born 14th June). I've been doing it very lazily though. Need to become a bit more organised. DS was puree weaned and was a nightmare eater right from the start so am trying a diff approach - blw and not getting stressed (ha). So far, she is mad for it but it mostly comes out again - is this normal?

lauraloolajinglesalltheway · 17/12/2008 17:00

Hi Defeated and sasamax,

Defeated - For dd's tea I do baby rice with some pureed fruit in - Some from a Hipp jar. She loves it.

Sasamax - Welcome to our thread x Your dd is 3 days older then mine and she is 27 weeks today. I am pureeing but Darkmere is BLW and by the sounds of it more comes out then in!!

I am going to mix some BLW in at the weekend and try some toast for dd!

sasamax · 17/12/2008 17:58

Hi Laura
Ah so she's 27 wks then - glad I know that now!
I've tried rice now and again - might give her some today actually...but she's not keen on spoons and I don't want to force it (hence the blw)

lauraloolajinglesalltheway · 17/12/2008 18:07

Have you tried letting your dd play with a spoon? I did this with dd just before we started to get her used to it IYSWIM!

Darkmere · 17/12/2008 18:27

Hi everyone and welcome Sasamax!

As Lauraloola says a lot of DD's food comes straight out. If it wasn't for her distinctly 'solid' nappies I wouldn't believe she was eating very much at all. But as I understand this is normal until the baby begins to understand more about what she is doing. This might not be for a few months though.

I gave DD some yoghurt today on a spoon... I loaded it and let her put it in her hair, nose, eye and eventually mouth. Its probably not v BLW but I eventually tried to guide her a little bit just to make sure there was at least some yoghurt still on it by the time it had reached her mouth. This sort of worked!

She had broccoli for tea tonight. Bit gaggy but nothing too scary and she seemed to enjoy it.

lauraloolajinglesalltheway · 17/12/2008 20:09

Dd has gone off of her milk today.

She had 7oz at 8.30am, 3oz at 1pm, 3oz at 4pm and 5oz of goodnight milk just now.

She has eaten - 2 big cubes of sweet potato, a jar of berry fruit for lunch. Porridge with mango for tea!

She has been very constipated today and done massive poos! Her bum is very sore and she has cried when I have wiped her so we are back to water and cotton wool.

I am thinking maybe I will cut out a meal tomorrow or give her smaller portions of food but she does love it. I am also worried about her milk intake and if I cut her solids will she be getting enough.

Any ideas??

OK for dinner I gave her rice cakes dipped in baby rice/apple puree mixture. She loved it. Then she had some of DS's mccain smiles Finally she demanded a taste of vienetta. I really need to be more careful. Oh and some kiwi as well which she really liked.
Need to dry broccoli.
DS got constipated when milk feeds were reduced. Def try to be gradual when getting her used to solids. DS ended up on lactulose and I don't even want to go into what happened next. Don't let constipation take hold - it can lead to problems.
That sounded a bit lecturey - sorry
Her poos are still pretty runny btw - slightly worrying!

lauraloolajinglesalltheway · 17/12/2008 21:30

I think tomorrow I will reduce the amount she eats and try to up the milk a bit more.

Thanks xx

OK so tonight she had broccoli and dry pasta. She went mad for it and 'decorated' the entire living room!!

lauraloolajinglesalltheway · 18/12/2008 19:52

I bet pasta is quite easy for them to eat.

I have reduced the amount dd has eaten today! A bit of carrot, some baby rice that she gagged on and some porridge with pear in.

She seems less constipated today and has drunk all of her milk today

OP posts:
sasamax · 18/12/2008 19:54

Yay - good stuff!
BTW when I say dry pasta I don't mean non-cooked lol!!!
Yes - she seems to find pasta really easy!

Darkmere · 18/12/2008 20:38

Hi guys Its great hearing how you are all getting on.
I was planning to try some pasta this weekend Think I will mix it with some grated cheese- she is really enjoying that at the moment.

sasamax · 19/12/2008 09:56

Hey Darkmere - how does she pick up the cheese?
I just don't know how to give her it......

Darkmere · 19/12/2008 16:04

I grate the cheese so she picks up clumps of it (its normal cheddar- quite sticky). Works pretty well.

sasamax · 19/12/2008 16:49

Cool - will try that ta!
So what's on the menu tolnight?
We're having haggis - too salty for her but will maybe see if she can pick up some mash!

lauraloolajinglesalltheway · 19/12/2008 18:18

You are both very brave! If dd gets a bit of puree on her hand I wipe it off straight away - May I am a bit too clean!!!

Dd is loving food! She gets so excited when she goes in her highchair now!

I am going to try toast on Sunday morning for breakfast...

OP posts:
Darkmere · 19/12/2008 18:21

Ha there's a challenge- to make baby friendly haggis.

DD turned her nose up at mash so added some grated cheese- still not bothered. Thought I might as well mash in the half of the avocado she had had the day previous- even less interested. Gave her a banana which she rolled around into the mash and she polished the lot off!

Tea tonight was not a huge success. She worked on a breadstick while I was pottering in the kitchen and roasting a red pepper. I gave the pepper about 20 mins which wasn't long enough really. It was too tough so she was only able to suck on it (I had cut it into strips). I reckon she would have enjoyed it though so will try again and roast it for longer. So anyway she had a bit of apple and a slice of toast instead.

sasamax · 19/12/2008 18:37

DD has gone to sleep so will have v late dinner tonight - maybe just some cheese (dying to try cheese)
Good on you Lauraloo - toast is a great one I think - prepare for tiny bits of soggy toast everywhere!

lauraloolajinglesalltheway · 24/12/2008 10:24

Hi everyone,

Dd is having sprouts, carrots and potato for lunch tomorrow - How about you?

How is everyone getting on?

OP posts:
Darkmere · 24/12/2008 16:08

Hi Laura

We had a trial run at my dads yesterday and DD loved roast potato! She kept everyone entertained with her messy eating. Looking forward to tomorrow- planning to let her try some chicken. How are you and mini loola? Did you give her any toast?

x
