When does a nearly 8 month old start to chew? Any advice on encouraging this?

Just wondering when my nearly 8 month old will start to chew.

he’s doing well with his weaning and is now on three meals a day but when trying BLW he just doesn’t seem to chew.

I’ve started to do more lumpier/mashed foods and hoping this may help him, but when offering toast, banana strips, melty sticks he just doesn’t want to chew and seems to take chunks and have me in a panic.

does anyone have any advice?

thank you!

Both of mine have been chewing or trying to from the very start of weaning so 6 months, that’s how they learn. Finger foods from day 1 especially things like whole strawberries really help them with mapping out their mouths and they learn how to move food around their mouths by having food in there to start with.

Thank you for the advice, I’ll keep trying the finger foods. He’ll get there.

thank you
