Practical high chair recommendations?

Hi there

My little one is 5 months old and I’m looking at high chairs to buy for him soon starting solids in a few weeks.

Anyone have any good recommendations of high chair brand or specific one?

100% Ikea antilop, it’s cheap, practical, easy to use, comfy for kids, easy to clean, and can be made as asthetically pleasing as you like
add a foot rest (easily found on Etsy etc)
can’t go wrong.
I think lots of first time mums make mistake of spending loads on these fancy high chairs and then can’t try a good fit for a young baby in it, baby is unsettled and miserable, etc and often they then turn to ikea one after all

I'd recommend a good wooden one, doesn't have to be the most popular brand one as other companies do them.

But we had one and used it for both children. Great thing about it was DD was using it as a chair long after she didn't need the tray bit as you can adjust them to different heights. Also the cushion ours had could go through the washing machine and the wood finish was easy to wipe down.

Stokke tripp trapp, hands down.

We bought ours second hand for £50 almost 6yrs ago, and our second one a similar price almost 4ys ago.

We bought a second hand 'baby set' the first time around, kept it for baby2, then sold it for the same price we bought it when it was outgrown (baby set is a clip on bit).

Kids use their chairs every day. We havent had to buy booster seats. They use them in their play too as bunkbeds for teddies and dive platforns for action figures.

We'll sell them on when we're done but it won't be any time soon. Good solid bit of baby kit, so easy to clean.

IKEA antilope is the only answer. Just buy a footrest to add on

Just get a simple one you can wipe down and easily get DC in and out of that straps them in well that comes with an attached table

If you’re on a budget Ikea antilop with footrest, if you can stretch Tripp trapp

I ended up with both a Tripp trapp and then an expensive maxi cosi one for my pfb. Second time round I went straight to ikea - easy to clean, easy to get in/out of, comfy for them, doesn’t take up too much room - absolutely brilliant bit of kit I couldn’t believe how cheap it was and how much I’d spent before 🤣

Another vote for Ikea Antelop!

I had/have the stokke steps, bought a second one too, both still in use daily as the dining table chairs are still too low for both children. Initial cost sounds high, but actually cost per use is low as you get years out of them.

Honestly I will never not recommend the IKEA Antilop.

There is a reason this is the choice of chair in almost all eating establishments, it's unbeatable for price, ease to clean and durability.

Another vote for Ikea. Bonus is loads of restaurants and cafes have them, so your LO will go in happily.

Another vote for the Ikea one. The tray and seat fitted in our dishwasher too, which made life much easier. Easy to clean, sturdy.

Either the Tripp trapp If you have the money (best choice we have two) and both grandparents have the IKEA one which is a good second best

the ikea one is great. Also loved the Baby Bjorn one. The tray was smaller and fit in the dishwasher better

Absolutely love our Tripp Trapp - got it second hand too. It’s really nice having your baby properly sat at the table with you all to eat (though you can buy a tray if you prefer)

I had the Silver Cross Buffet which I did like, it was comfy, wiped clean covers etc but there were so many little crevices for food/milk/puke to end up in it was a pain to clean.

I'd go for the Ikea one because it's cheap and easy to clean but I think the silver cross one was more comfortable.

We ended up with both a Stokke trip trap and IKEA antilop.

The ikea one worked better for us when DS was small and in the early stages of weaning. Fitted him better (with added footrest) and seemed more comfortable for him, and much much easier to clean.

Trip trap - expensive, absolute pain to clean baby set and tray, need to buy extra attachments separately, fiddly to adjust and DS hated it initially. However, he’s now 2.5 and it’s great. Looks nicer at our table than a cheap plastic one, has him at the right height for the table with a footrest, and he can climb in and out of it himself. I expect we’ll use it a few more years.

The newborn attachment for the trip trap was a waste of time/space/money (I know you’re past that stage but for anyone else reading this!).

Yes! Ikea! Easy to clean, don’t t bother with anything fancy. Wish I’d known that before I purchased my silver cross one with my first!
