What is so good about the tripp trapp highchairs that everybody goes on about?

Hello, I am wondering why people actually like these? I look after a little girl who has one and HATE feeding her in it. I seriously couldn't think of a worse high chair. It drives me mad! Give me a plastic tray one anyday!

Yeah but Sanguine, IKEA does a really lovely plastic one that is small, elegant and cheap. I just think everyone must have massive home to house the bulky ones.

Ikea chair

Thanks winky. We have one of these and it's fine, really. And believe me, it isn't indicative of a big house, we're in a two bed flat.

I'm very sorry that I haven't got the right high chair.

we have 3 triptrapps and 6 dining table chairs - 4 are at the table with 2 tripptrapps pushed in, 3rd trip trap is against wall. Remaining 2 chairs are in spare room! we dig them out when we need them -

Sanguine. I really wasn't attacking your choice of high chairs.

Not sure how you came to be so very defensive.

Obviously each choose high chairs to their own need.

I just assumed if you choose a big one, you've got a big home.

Obviously I was mistaken. But it was my (massive and immediately needing of correcting) mistake.

Please enjoy your high chairs.

Sorry Winky, obviously having a defensive moment when I typed it. You know how sometimes it feels like if you haven't got this or if you don't do that, then you feel kind of "out of step" with all the other mums. All DS's things are second hand and mostly not at all fashionable. We didn't choose our high chair, we just suddenly found ourselves in need of one. If we'd have been in an Ikea at the time instead of an NCT sale, we probably would have got the one you suggested

I'm just a bit touchy because of a really only tangentally linked subject - the fact that our fairly cheap and unfashionable push chair has turned out to be rubbish for my SPD, and I'm having a relapse from pushing it. Silly, just feeling a bit... meh, and . Ignore me.

I suppose that everyone gets the one they feel is best for their needs and what their budget allows. I personally loved the TT with DD1 (pressie from my mum) but couldn;t afford a new one for DD2 (and didn;t want to ask mum for the money!) so I hunted on ebay for a while - a good tip is spell it wrong when you put it in the search bit as every now and then people misspell and you're able to get it cheaper - ie trip trap instead of tripp trapp - thats how I got my second one.

If you like the Tripp Trapp but want a cheaper alternative i can recommend 'Bendy the bent wood childrens'chair' (shame about the name) available new through Ebay. It costs around £50 delivered and has the advantage (imo) of a tray that can be swung into place if you want. I love mine - looks nearly as good as Tripp Trapp (except cushion which is a bit rubbish - but i've taken it off now anyway -easier to clean without it). Only problem was that the plastic tray-locking-pins broke (cos i kept lifting it by the tray i guess) and the company immediately sent more in the post - so i still think it's the bees knees.
