What is so good about the tripp trapp highchairs that everybody goes on about?

Hello, I am wondering why people actually like these? I look after a little girl who has one and HATE feeding her in it. I seriously couldn't think of a worse high chair. It drives me mad! Give me a plastic tray one anyday!

Aitch, I guess so,but if I hadn't had DS's in the house, I'd be in a mess with DD .I'd have ended up buying a toddler chair or somesuch, as hse's not very big, but very agile, so 30 quid for gulliver chair, another 30-40quid for toddler chair, it would start to add up. And then you have a highchair that you don't want anymore, but isn't worth much on ebay...I dunno.. I like good design.

chloemegjess · 11/05/2008 23:16

Has anybody used it from weaning? What wre your opinions on that stage? Surely its harder to feed babies?

Babyset worked a treat for DS.

AitchTwoCiao · 11/05/2008 23:18

loads of people use them from weaning, they're great. and expensive.

pinky, we just got an antilop £15 (solid as houses, believe me, dd is a climber) and another ikea toddler chair at £21.99... but nice try.

Pablop · 11/05/2008 23:21

CocodeBear, where did you get plastic mats from? I know it sounds like a daft question but I have no idea. Thought it a great idea having DS sat up to the table but not so great when he is squashing his food into the wood leaving greasy marks.

AitchTwoCiao · 11/05/2008 23:23

tripp-trapp users on my blw site absolutely rave about this. it's the one thing i might consider buying for no.2.

pinkyminky · 11/05/2008 23:24

Have one of those for camping. DD pulls it over, with mat. She is climbing up the things! You wouldn't believe this child, she carries chairs, books, or anything from other rooms to reach on to the sideboard to climb onto the top of the TV. Eyes in the back of my head? I need a 24 hour surveillance team. I agree, though, tripptrapps are a luxury item, but unlike other overpriced baby goods, they do actually do all the jobs they set out to do.

AitchTwoCiao · 11/05/2008 23:26

what, the hippo thing?

i know someoen on my site who just got a big piece of glass cut for £50 so that it would protect their table. expensive, but it was a v fancy table.

Pablop · 11/05/2008 23:28

Thanks Aitch,

pinkyminky · 11/05/2008 23:28

My friend leant me one of those mats, but it wouldn't stick to our waxed table. The tommee tippee ones (in tescos, I think) stick really well. I used to ahve just a piece of sticky backed plastic stuck to the table for DS, worked really well.

AitchTwoCiao · 11/05/2008 23:32

how funny, dd defeated the tommee tippee one in ten secs flat and frisbeed it plus contents across the room. i've never tried the hippo thing, though.
ikea are doing a thick plastic floor mat to protect floors from chair castors, i saw one the other day and thought... ooh, that might make a great and cut-uppable enormous table mat.

AitchTwoCiao · 11/05/2008 23:33

here, might be useful for the floor also and what an appropriate name for weaning...

chloemegjess · 11/05/2008 23:34

How much did you all pay for your tripp trapps and where from?

I think if your child wants to throw the dish around, nothing short of nailing the dish to the table is going to stop them
DD liked the mat because it held the dish in place whilst she fed herself with her spoon, and as I say, other mats just moved about.
However I have a feeling I am irritating you, aitch, so I'll be off, now. Nice talking to you.

AitchTwoCiao · 11/05/2008 23:49

you what? what on EARTH has given you that impression? i was just trying to be helpful... why would i search for links if someone was irritating me. [baffled] [and now actually a bit irritated, ironically enough]

pinkyminky · 11/05/2008 23:55

Sorry. Just feeling a bit low at the moment. Didn't realise the link was for me. I'm very sorry, didn't mean to upset you.

AitchTwoCiao · 11/05/2008 23:57

well you said that the mat didn't work for you so i presumed that you were still looking for something. although i now realise that you liked the TT one. you can have mine if you like. sweet dreams, pinky.

CocodeBear · 12/05/2008 07:33

I have a hippo mat, it's good. It collects all the bits that DD spits out.

Also have some Woollies plastic Disney character mats for £1, they're ok, though DD can throw them on the floor if the mood takes her.

umberella · 12/05/2008 08:06

I've just been looking at high chairs as we're just about to start weaning DD - my friend has a tripp trapp but when i did a product review search on it, there were actually a few people saying their DC had managed to TIP IT OVER while it it .

DD is only 5.5mo but very active, so we will not be buying one of them i'm afraid, on the strength of those reviews.

AllBuggiedOut · 12/05/2008 13:37

That can be a problem with any highchair that goes right to the table, if the child can get his/her feet onto the table and neither the chair nor table move. When my kids pushed against the table with their feet, the chair slid back because it was on a hard surface. They are VERY stable, though, when child is climbing in/out, and much more stable than a booster seat strapped to a chair.

Mumsnut · 12/05/2008 13:44

You can get a tray for a Bumbo, Chloe. I got one from E-bay.

Caz10 · 12/05/2008 14:32

I had seen that colon Kolon mat too - has anyone seen it in RL? i wondered if it would be a safe enough base ie non-slippy, for a high chair? it's quite pretty!

AitchTwoCiao · 12/05/2008 14:41

my sister has it for the purpose that it's intended. it looked fine to me.
