My baby is only 8 months so I'm not speaking from vast experience here, but don't worry. Seriously. It's so early on, he doesn't need to eat food. At the minute it's just about exposing him to it. Keep offering it, let him smell it and feel the textures of it, maybe he'll taste it and maybe he won't yet.

But practical tips... just some thoughts. Try mixing savoury food with fruit purees? Use savoury food as dippers for fruit so he starts to get used to the flavour of the savoury food when he's taking the puree? Give him toast with fruit puree on some of the fingers and something like hummus or avocado on other ones?

@MummytoAce23 it really doesn't matter at 7 months whether he eats it or not as he should still be getting plenty of milk. I'd offer solids once or twice a day and only offer savoury for a few days. Try to look at what he's eaten over a week rather than an individual meal. If he hasn't eaten anything then you can just assume he's not hungry. It also doesn't matter if he eats purées or not. Some babies like them, some don't.

Some things you can try him with are:

One Egg Omelettee*

Blueberry & Banana Pancakes

Cheese on Toast with some halved baby tomatoes on the side

Cottage Pie with no added salt, the adults can add salt at the table if they want it

Fish Cakess*

Cinnamon Toast

Blueberry Porridge

Good luck Wink

Echoing previous posters: don't worry, it's still super early. My daughter wasn't interested in food until she was 10 months or so. Just keep offering and he'll get there.

My DD is only 8 months so I don’t have much experience! But she also massively prefers fruit , so you aren’t the only one.

have you tried sweeter vegetables? EG carrots and sweet potato might help bridge that gap. My DD also loves parsnip!

Futurethinking2026 · 11/10/2024 10:19

My DS (now a strapping 18 year old) wouldn't touch savoury for a long time. He only really started eating it when he was having normal adult food at the table with us. Wouldn't entertain any savoury baby food or pouches etc.

OMGsamesame · 11/10/2024 10:20

When you say he hates it what do you mean?
It's normal for babies to pull faces that look like disgust when weaning. You just keep offering the food and eventually they get used to it. I was told offer a food at least 7 or 8 times before deciding the baby doesn't like it.

Try root vegetables, cucumber, white fish, rice, pasta, sweetcorn, peas, avocado,

Stop offering fruits/sweet food.

How have you both got on today @MummytoAce23? Wink

I have tried carrots and sweet potato’s and he doesn’t mind them but isn’t keen, he likes sweetcorn to be fair

Are you only offering one single food at a time @MummytoAce23?

I tried him with a slightly chunkier puree and he didn’t like it but I offered him it and then gave him banana rice cereal he loves, he also eats some savoury unpureed. So he had cucumber and a bit of chicken before he decided he just wanted fruit. I am trying desperately 🥲

No not always. I tried that and he wasn’t keen so I tried mixing them and he wasn’t keen either

If he likes Sweetcorn, have a try of these sweetcorn & spinach fritters. My DF always does those if she has a cooked breakfast Wink
