i have been preparing some water bottles and just leave water in them and dont add powder - 7 month old lo vomited after having some

he is very difficult and been trying to get him to have water instead of milk every single time

so i tried the water today and it was foul and really tasted of plastic! really foul! no wonder he doesn't like water

please - has anyone had this expoerience before

very strong taste of plastic of water
stored in baby bottles

i boil water - cool for 15-30 min then pour in bottle and store in fridge

is that taste actually plastic? harmful? the famous bisphenol A?

thanks loads

very worried mum

Any water left to stand in a non air tight container has a "taste" (think of bottled water when you come to pour a second drink after it has been resealed). Very unlikely to be contaminated. Perhaps he just drank a gulp too quickly, he doesn't really need water as such anyway. Don't worry.

and in many countries they don't even boil the tap water. UK is fairly exceptional, in Europe at least.

hi lizs

but when you pour boiled water - it kinda seals doesnt it until you use it?? so at use it would be sealed...ok perhaps not air tight...

also that is the same water i would use to make up his feeds...milk would obviously disguise the foul taste but now been several times tastes the water alone bottles and they really are foul - confirmed by hubby and grandma..

so not worried about him drinking wqater but VERY worried re him drinking milk made up with the foul water if that makes sense!

has anyone else had same foul taste?

If it is preboiled it is fine. The trapped stale air within the bottle may affect taste. If you are worried don't preboil a whole batch, make the next one up as you go along (so the water stands for less time), store the water it in an alternative container until you need to make up the formula or buy ready made. Very unlikely to be harmful as long as water is boiled only once and you follow the instructions.

If it is specifically the flavour of the water whcih concerns you try a different sort of beaker. He may spit it out because he expects milk in a bottle not water.

no need to boil water after 6m, hence no need to store it in bottles, hence no plasticy taste

just fill from tap

just fill from tap - even to make up formula???????????????

or simply from tap for his water- alone drinking???

ps am still sterilising the bottles at least with steam method.....

does the water for formula still need boiling too?

water for formula must be 70C when you mix in the powder (ie boil then cool for 30min) regardless of age.

but if you're giving him plain water as a drink there's no need to boil it
