Cow & Gate Jars or other jars?

My DS is just shy of 8 months, and is such a greedy baby! He just loves his food. He normally has Weetabix with fruit in the morning, or toast.

Mostly I do home cook for him, but sometimes when DP is working a late and we eat later I used to use the Ella's Kitchen pouches. He absolutely loved these, but (probably tmi) it gave him very runny poos and it smelt quite acidic. After speaking to my HV she explained that Ella's Kitchen can be quite acidic for some baby's, and it's best to swap him to one that agrees with him.

I'm thinking about changing him to the Cow and Gate Jars, but just wanted some opinions of others? Can anyone offer any advice? TIA x

Check water and fillers in the cheaper food jar/pouches.

'Freddie' does great pouches that my little one loves. They're usually veg based, and are organic.

@summeryet I have never heard of 'Freddie' but will definitely look into it! Thank you! 😊

Aldi pouches are great also. Dd loved them for a quick dinner at that age.

Pouches are great and no issues with them.

However, also easy for me was freezing ice cube trays of whatever was going. Stick the cubes of food in a bag in the freezer; easy quick food. Could mix and match like sweet potato and peas or mango and apple. I liked it because I'd just puree whatever was not perfect in the fridge (strawberries about to turn etc.).

DS always loved the Asda Little Angels range. He’s one now and I still get a few of the fruit purées to add to yoghurt/ fruit in a pinch.

We used the Cow & Gate jars too and he either loved or hated them. Still have some questionable Hake and Potato ones in the cupboard. Maybe get a few different ones to see where his tastes lie.

You can kill yourself trying to cook and purée a load of meals but sometimes you just need a quick fix.

Not that you’ve asked, but in case you were considering: I bought the Ella’s kitchen cookbooks as DS loved the pouches. I didn’t find them that great for the early weaning days but the Red one has recipes for 10-12 months that are fab.

I've found the cow and gate ones a bit hit and miss as to whether DD will eat them and she eats everything else! I prefer the Aldi and ASDA pouches for ease anyway and she seems to prefer them too.

Some cow and gate jars ds loves other he hates. The spag Bol was a favourite. Due to a late onset egg allergy we’ve had to swap to hipp organic spag Bol, he also likes the pasta ham one and veg noodles one. I’d eat a hipp jar, some of the cow and gate don’t taste great
Lidl pouches are very good and the Heinz are good as well. ( I’ve not puréed anything!)
