Baby led vs spoon led weaning

Reading a lot of posts and information online it seems that people choose baby led weaning OR pureed foods and spoon feeding. My DS is not 6 months yet so EBF but when he is 6 months I was planning on doing both-say spoon feed some foods then give boiled carrot sticks or some other finger food later etc as opposed to choosing one way of feeding method over another. Is that unusual and if so why?? Any disadvantages of doing this?

Haha, fair enough - I have seen olives cited as a favourite food of babies under 1 by some BLW-ers and I'm never sure whether I'm being a bit neurotic to be leery of that! Similarly I joined a BLW Facebook group for ideas and a lot of them give their babies takeaway food if that's what mum and dad happen to be having, which feels to be to be taking the 'they eat what you eat' to extremes...

DD ate pub grub at the pub from the word go, but we knew the olives were in oil, not brine and we just asked for things not to be seasoned with salt. We don’t add it to anything but pasta water even now.
