No scales. 40g of baby porridge - how many tbs?

I've just started weaning but have no scales, my first attempt at guessing has resulted in a very watery mess. Packet says 40g porridge to 200ml water.

That's a lot of porridge.

I use twice as much water to porridge, so if you do the same with whatever you have spoon wise, one spoon of porridge to two of water.

If you have a watery mess, add some more porridge until it isn't watery.

40g of porridge is as much as an adult should have, it seems a lot for weaning, 40:200 is 1:5 (I think, I suck at maths) so I'd find a cup to measure then do 5 more waters in the same? That might be all kinds of wrong though!

I just guessed and added more of either til it was eventually right

I agree with funky - 1 quantity oats to 2 milk/water.

To answer your question 40g is around 3tbsp (1tbsp is around 15g) which is a lot for a just weaning baby.

That's loads!

I tip some porridge into dds bowl and gradually add water til it's the right consistency

Or

I tip say 3oz milk in her bowl and add porridge til right consistency

200ml is 7oz and I only ever make my dd 3 or 4 oz with porridge btw, and she's 8 months so I would just make up and oz or two for a just weaning baby

Do porridge fingers instead. three flat tbsp rolled porridge oats (not instant or whole oats) and three tbsp bm, formula or cow's milk (if over 12 months). mix together then press down into a microwaveable bowl (take away boxes work well) and micro on high power for 1m 30s if using an 850 watt micro. Cut into finger food size pieces whilst hot. Allow to cool and give to baby. Can put mushed up banana in, cinnamon, vanilla extract etc if your baby would like more flavour.
