Is a pork chop too salty to give a 6 mth old baby to gum at?

Or would it be too salty? It's a Lion pork chop, the label says 0.6g salt per chop.

I gave her plain chicken to gum yesterday and she liked it.

it depends on whether you've put salt on it.

if you've just cooked it in a frying pan and not added anything, then it's perfectly fine.

scarletforya · 08/01/2013 16:28

No I am definitely not going to add salt. I was going to put it in foil and roast it....just had a wobble that pork is a salty meat! Thank you Smile

I think it's just natural salt- like in sweat, iyswim. :)

SirEdmundFrillary · 08/01/2013 16:50

Probably.

colditz · 08/01/2013 16:51

Only if you e salted it.

ppeatfruit · 08/01/2013 16:55

IMHO pork is a very FAT meat indeed I would never give a child esp. a baby pork esp. fried it's also very difficult to digest.

colditz · 08/01/2013 16:56

Fat is good for babies, without fat they become malnourished.

TinyDiamond · 08/01/2013 16:57

its a good idea I'm sure it will be really tasty

orangepudding · 08/01/2013 16:57

Pork chop will be fine, it's cured meat like ham bacon and gammon that's salty.

FadBook · 08/01/2013 16:58

It's fine, I always looked at salt content over a period of say, 3 days, rather than 1 day. It's easier to level out perhaps some overly salty foods with other ones.

scarletforya · 08/01/2013 17:15

Ah I see re the cured meat orange thanks!

I'll probably trim off the fat just in case it becomes stringy (choking hazard?!) and let her gum at the meat sort of thing. I have it cooked now, I'm just going to let it cool a bit!

I didn't fry it ppeat I just put it in foil and popped it in the oven!

It gives DH gout and he's much older than 6months!! I can't digest it at all Shock

scarletforya · 08/01/2013 18:04

I don't eat it much myself I must admit! I think she liked the chicken better. Not much going in, it's a pork popsicle, she's just using it as a teething toy really!

It gives your husband gout BECAUSE he's much older than six months, ppeatfruit.
