Over heard conversation in Asda today re: jars

jmum6 · 12/04/2006 16:40

Was in Asda buying follow on milk when 2 women came looking at the baby food.

'Really can't be doing with cooking for him' says one woman.

'No' says the other 'what a waste of time.'

Didn't know whether to laugh or cry. :o

jesus, please don't elevate jars into some kind of rich white folks blessing

puff · 12/04/2006 21:05

Disagree completely that it's child abuse.

cod · 12/04/2006 21:05

anid parp and begone

expatinscotland · 12/04/2006 21:06

It's only in Western countries that many are able to even afford them, Enid.

All this 'breast is best' it isn't even an issue in most places, where it's breast or nothing.

Enid · 12/04/2006 21:06

I think feeding jars and noly jars for every meal IS like child abuse

dont worry I am off in a minute as dh appears from shed

Enid · 12/04/2006 21:07

expat that doesnt make them good

I bet they dont have cheese strings in third world countries either

cheese strings are still evil

cod · 12/04/2006 21:07

oh enid
get a grip

expatinscotland · 12/04/2006 21:08

This is such a judgemental thread, too.

'Oooo, look at the 'bad' mum who buys jars!' scoffs Chelsea-tractor-Boden-wearning-poncey mum who's got a cleaner to do all her dirty work and sends her ironing out.

FFS! I worked two jobs and sometimes when I got home I couldn't be arsed to cook for the little darling.

puff · 12/04/2006 21:08

is he bringing you a surprise from it Grin?

It's not good 24/7, granted, but I can't equate it to child abuse

Anyway, am off to find a more cerebral thread - there must be one about the latest "must have" moisturiser Wink

jodie1984 · 12/04/2006 21:09

would it matter that i dont know her HV whould my HV be able to find that out? i am going to my mums for easter week end, so will no doubt have 30mins worth of stories to go through

expatinscotland · 12/04/2006 21:09

They're not poisonous!

Angeliz · 12/04/2006 21:09

I'm sure lots of mothers adore their babies and feed them jars Enid. Do you think those babies should be taken into care then?
No love but fresh food.
I can see how jars and only jars can be construed(sp) as a bit lazy but abuse? C'mon!!!

Enid · 12/04/2006 21:09

you lot are sooooooooooo chippy

cod · 12/04/2006 21:09

:)

Enid · 12/04/2006 21:10

fine

go ahead and be proud of raising a generation of fat, unhealthy, thick kids while you did something more 'fun' than cook

Angeliz · 12/04/2006 21:10

Go and have a fag in your shed! Grin

puff · 12/04/2006 21:10

lol Enid

How pregnant with raging hormones are you btw?

Wink
nailpolish · 12/04/2006 21:10

stop arguing and come over to my take that thread, im selling my soul (or feels like)

snafu · 12/04/2006 21:11

Ahhhh, good old Mumsnet

I've got an empty room if anyone wants to start a fight in it.

Angeliz · 12/04/2006 21:11

Do jars make them thick then?

Enid · 12/04/2006 21:12

lol at hormones

I really, genuinely think mums that only offer jars to their kids like the OP was suggesting are lazy and bloody selfish

expatinscotland · 12/04/2006 21:12

'do you have a 'regional' accent', you pathetic, dirty, working-class low life?'

'do you use jars b/c you can't be arsed to cook?'

'did you formula feed b/c you couldn't be arsed to breastfeed?'

you filthy, pitiful, child-abusing excuse for a parent!

fgs, is this all people have to feel good about themselves these days - that they're somehow better b/c they had the time and energy to knit their own yoghurt?

we don't know anything about this mum - she could be single or w/a special needs child or elderly relative to look after, maybe w/a job or two as well. maybe she's fucking knackered.

maybe it's none of our damn business.
