Over heard conversation in Asda today re: jars

jmum6 · 12/04/2006 16:40

Was in Asda buying follow on milk when 2 women came looking at the baby food.

'Really can't be doing with cooking for him' says one woman.

'No' says the other 'what a waste of time.'

Didn't know whether to laugh or cry. :o

i was formula fed, too.

Shock

never had an allergy in my life, either, except to posh London accents.

never had exsema, either.

or been overweight.

or had diabetes.

or any of those horrid things that happen to formula fed people.

nailpolish · 12/04/2006 21:15

so does nobody like take that then???

Enid · 12/04/2006 21:15

yes I was formula fed too

don't think anyone mentioned bottle feeding though

cod · 12/04/2006 21:15

Enid · 12/04/2006 21:15

expatinscotland · 12/04/2006 21:16

i like 'em, NP. i think they're a fucking great alternative to instant mash from a box and bristo gravy.

Enid · 12/04/2006 21:16

cod its what everyone, including me, has been saying

Moondog · 12/04/2006 21:16

lol at your dangerous risotto lockets.
My kid runs screaming when she sees me chopping chillies (which is often).

nailpolish · 12/04/2006 21:18

maybe ill just go on ebay then,

(ps jars are mingin)

jmum6 · 12/04/2006 21:21

Expat, I posted the original thread because I was amused by the tone and content of the conversation I overheard. NOT because they were buying jars. (I've bought a few jars in my time), definitly not judging, or even commenting on people who give jars (I do now and again).

But the tone used suggested they couldn't 'ever' be bothered to cook, and probably couldn't be bothered to spend any time with their lo's.

flog them in a car boot sale, NP. don't ebay. it's full of gits for buyers.

nailpolish · 12/04/2006 21:25

CAR BOOT SALE?

they are prized possessions Angry

and i want a decent price thank you very much

nailpolish · 12/04/2006 21:26

dont all rush at once

jodie1984 · 12/04/2006 21:29

has it been wrapped up now then?

ggglimpopo · 12/04/2006 21:31

Ahem, Rhubarb, I wouldn't say jars are the norm here. French babies eat french food (salt, garlic, pureed horse, the works) and I think you are over generalising.

As ofr the chocolate issue, yes. I came back from the supermarket yesterday and ds was in tears because I hadn't bought any "real" cereal - when questioned, "real cereal is made with chocolate".

And this from a child who knows his Country store from his Weetabix with organic semi skimmed....

jmum6 · 12/04/2006 21:32

Guess so.

Am off to cook some anabelle karmel recipes before I go to bed Wink

Can you really buy powdered baby food? Is this a new "innovation"?

I agree with Enid "Hyacinth" fwiw, you should not feed children jars all the time

It's sucha apiece of piss to cook and freeze

Dior · 12/04/2006 21:36

enid you mentioned cost and that confuses me as to buy all the organic ingredients i'd need to make a decent meal for dd, it's actually cheaper to buy an equivelant amout of organic jars. have worked it out, although that may be more of a commentary of the ridiculous price of organic produce over here....

CountessDracula · 12/04/2006 21:38

yes yes but it will be fresh food without preservatives etc

jmum6 · 12/04/2006 21:41

JMum6 Dp here I agree feeding babies jars is not good they cant swallow the glass......

OP posts:
PinkTulips · 12/04/2006 21:42

i never bought a single jar that had preservatives in it! the jaring process is preservative in itself so it's not needed. and yes i did stand in the supermarket and read the back of every single jar i picked up as i had to anyway to exclude things my dd was intolerant to or hadn't been introduced to.

i'm not saying their better before you get all cross at me again, but they're not the devils food either!

PinkTulips · 12/04/2006 21:42
