Car Hire

Hi, can anyone shed some light on what type of car is best for Florida? I've obviously been on various websites and filtered the options to suit but keep getting varying info. We'll be a group of 6 - 3 adults, 3 kids - with suitcases for a fortnight so not travelling light. Most of the mini vans are coming up as suitable for 7 passengers but only 3 suitcases. Has anyone been in a largish group and could recommend a decent car type? Thank you.

You are going with a party of 6 plus 6 cases. If you are going into Orlando then split the party and get half to follow in a large uber.

Or, hire one vehicle for the full holiday and one for 24 hours so that you can get everybody to your accommodation. You can drop it off either on International Drive or at Disney Car Care centre depending on the hire company. Same routine for the return trip.

Sorry, I missed the point. Either get a large SUV or a people carrier.

This is actually quite good advice. You'll need a fair size people carrier to fit 6 people, but the boot space is rubbish on these and there's no way you'll get 6 cases in addition. Unless you get something like a Merc Vito which is actually a 10 seater.
So one people carrier and one smaller car to stack all of the luggage in (or a taxi).

Bear in mind car sizes are huge in the US. We’re just back from Florida, and booked an intermediate this time, just because it was the same price as the medium/compact. We were given a Jeep Grand Cherokee, which was an absolute monster; never driven such a huge car!

We had a Wagoneer - huge beast - seats 8 3 in both middle and back rows and easily fits 6 cases in large boot - so large didn't even need to fold the pushchair to put in the boot after days out!

For 6 people and 6 cases you will need a large SUV eg Chevrolet Suburban. The size below (eg Tahoe) will not fit all your bags. Or a mini van. It’s good advice to get a regular 6 seater and some of you uber to the accommodation unless you get a really good deal on a large enough car.
