Everglades

Has anyone stayed in Everglades city? We were thinking of doing one night there to do the airboat after Orlando and before heading up to Siesta Key. Didn't want to go all the way down south but did want the experience.

We didn’t stay there, but we did visit to do the 10,000 Islands boat trip which was possibly the highlight of our whole trip to the Everglades, which was all awesome. We went with these people https://evergladesfloridaadventures.com/ The captain was so knowledgeable and we saw an incredible number of birds and even a pod of dolphins.

So, I’d say do it and enjoy both an airboat and traditional boat ride while you’re there.

Thanks!! Ended up booking a hotel in Everglades city for one night and booked a tour out of there.

Very good! The Everglades National Park visitor Centre is, I think, still closed after a hurricane at the end of last year but the town appears fine otherwise.

If you have time I’d recommend a quick visit to the Big Cypress state park (Nathaniel P Reed) visitor centre, about 3 miles along the Tamiami trail towards Miami. Exhibits, boardwalk, probable alligators and, if you’re visiting in the winter, possible manatees.
