was thinking of getting my ds a nintendo ds for his 3rd birthday but wondered if there are any educational games that would be suitable for him eg number, letter or shape games???

3 is way too young imo. Even without getting into the 'video games are evil' debate, a 3 year old will lose/break it and lose the games.

I think its too young. I have one and my 4 yr old has watched me play it but I dont think that he would be able to play one properly by himself. not sure there are any games particularly suitable like that but then havent really looked for one for that age range really.

too young. get him a truck

martini82 · 15/03/2010 11:16

ty for your replys tbh i think he is a bit young too. the reason i am considering it is because he loves watching his older brother play on his, but constantly trys to interfer by touching the screen! he has played it a bit and can work it. my thoughts were if i got him one too he wouldn't agravate his brother, and would help with additional leaning (if i could find age suitable learning games).

there are other interactive computer type things around that may be more suitable for him tho that might be worth looking out for.

without meaning to sound picky i do have a leapster (which was ds1 untill he got the ds) but i find the screen isnt very clear and it doesnt respond as good comparerd to the DS!

too young!

i think he's too young. we gave ds (4) sil's old nintendo ds and I've taken it off him. He's obsessed with it, monosyllabic and moody - and he's a balanced sensible (as much as you get one of those at 4 ) lovely boy. Too too young. No such thing as moderation when you are that little.

My dc2 is 3 and has a pre-owned ds from game. Games like Diego, peppa pig and I dit it mum are great and it gets played with in 10 minute bursts. No obsession with it yet.

thx evye! not sure i can take the screaming fits from my ds's much more!!! i'll look out for those games!

Moodlum, I'm with you on that one!! We bought ds 4yrs one for his Christmas, it was good to begin with and to be honest it was used as a bit of a babysitter but we then noticed that he went into a bit of a trance when he was using it. He wouldn't reply to us if we talked to him, as soon as he got up he wanted it, as soon as he was home from school he wanted it, it was like an obsession. I had had enough of it at the weekend and I've hidden it in my wardrobe!!! We had lots of tears and 'you're not my best friend' but I've noticed the past couple of days he's been loads more chatty and happy! He still asks for it but I refuse to give in!!

I wouldn't get a 3 year old a DS get a Leapster, a DS or a PSP would be smashed in no time.

Leapster2
