Unbranded joy-cons for Nintendo - are they any good?

Which Switch? From where? I don't believe there's any 3rd party joycons for the 2 so I'll assume original or OLED.

The official Nintendo ones are cheap to buy anyway, I wouldn't risk it.

I bought unofficial ones for my son and they broke very quickly.

They are fine. We actually got some from Temu (I was sceptical) and they worked for longer than the official ones, which get terrible drift, even after having them repaired by Nintendo.

The only issue is that the Temu ones don't properly work with the official accessories, which means we can't play Ring Fit any more because we don't have any non-drifting controllers which work with the ring.

The one official controller which doesn't drift I managed to stand on while we were moving house and totally kill it D:

Where are you finding them cheap? I can't see them for less than €70 a pair or €35 each, which I don't think is cheap.

Seems to be £60 in the UK or £50 on amazon.

CrispEater2000 · 26/06/2025 15:18

Depends. If they're for little kids then as long as they work I don't think it would make a lot of difference.

Once kids get a bit more serious about playing I wouldn't recommend anything unbranded or third party unless they're the real high-end premium stuff. Typically the cheaper ones don't feel right and break easier.

We had to suck up the cost (used Amazon at £68) - not ideal really
