Robux Donation

TungTungTungZahur2 · 17/05/2025 21:00

My son 8 was given £50 in Robux for his birthday yesterday, within 10 minutes he has 'donated' it to another player.

Apparently the player said if you give me the money then I will send it straight back to you. Obviously the player then just logged off.

Anything I can do? I have had a chat to my son but he is heartbroken that his birthday money is gone and so am I.

Well there's a life lesson. Poor kid.

Stripeyanddotty · 17/05/2025 21:03

Do you know the player?

TungTungTungZahur2 · 17/05/2025 21:07

No, it's just a random player who asks for donations? So he donated all his birthday money. I assumed he would buy new hats or similar for his character.

Did he give them the code from the card? As far as I'm aware, you can't just give your Robux to another player in the game.

Stripeyanddotty · 17/05/2025 21:10

So your 8 year old child is communicating online with a complete stranger? Are you insane??

It's looks like a donation game where you can donate your Robux to the game / players.

I’d be more worried about what could have happened rather than what did happen. Talking to random strangers isn’t great.

I’d recommend watching ‘online predator’ on iplayer.

I feel sorry for your son but there are so many other issues you need to have a think about. Your son is 8 and you have left him alone speaking to strangers. Do you not realised Roblox are full of people grooming young children. Also £50 on Robux? Seriously. You have found your 8 year old cannot be trusted in many ways.

WompWompBoom · 17/05/2025 21:24

You can reach out to Roblox. They're big on clamping down on "trust trading" but in reality they will only ban the offending player for a bit. I'd definitely try and message though. They've helped in a few cases I think.

I do know the donation games you're talking about as my DD sometimes uses them, but she can no longer chat in messenger as they blocked it for U13s. But if the account isn't set up correctly then it will still let them message.

TungTungTungZahur2 · 17/05/2025 21:26

£50 on Robux seemed a reasonable request, it was a collection of money from family. I have changed his settings to speak to no one now. Previously he has had a small amount as and when he wanted it which would have been better for managing his account.

The game he was on you can see how much money is in each players account which would have also made him a target.

Thank you, I have contacted them.

His is set up as under 13 on the game.

I never even knew donation games existed. Thank you for the explanation.

He normally plays with his brothers and their friends. I had no idea games like this existed or that he was taking to other people in the game as every time I checked in on him he was in a party with them rather than playing on his own.

How old are his brothers?

FloraBotticelli · 17/05/2025 21:39

I just banned Roblox for older DC in my house after reading this article…

PansyPottering · 17/05/2025 21:46

The fact that you didn’t know that these games existed or that he was able to communicate with strangers is worrisome. If you are going to allow your children to use the internet, it’s so important that you do understand the games and content that he is able to access.

This £50 should be a wake up call to you that you need to understand what your children are doing.

Stripeyanddotty · 17/05/2025 21:50

Do you have any awareness of the predators that your children may be exposed to ?

RockyRogue1001 · 17/05/2025 22:54

Not wanting to be a cow, but as pps have said, this it TOTALLY on you.

He's 8!!!!

You have to be a parent.
And however you think you've "checked", you clearly haven't, have you.

Please take this as a lesson. For you

hoarahloux · 18/05/2025 02:51

You allowed your son to get scammed on Roblox.

Take away his access until you can properly supervise it.

GenderFluid90 · 18/05/2025 10:01

You need to be more aware of what your child is doing online. Talking to a stranger at 8 years old. And getting scammed out of £50
That's on you.
Research these games fully before allowing access.

FixTheBone · 18/05/2025 10:09

The way video games have snuck in under parent's radar is that while everyone understands film ratings, or explicit lyrics in music, not every parent has been a gamer, or may be old enough to have missed the playstation generation....

I doubt many parents would buy their pee-teen a porno mag, or adult film, or let them watch an 18 rated horror film or go unsupervised to a concert, or a nightclub, or drink, or smoke or do drugs, but plenty seen oblivious to letting them play games with strong violence and sexual themes, or online functions that put them deliberately in contact with total strangers.

DOI an (almost) lifelong gamer for 40 of my 45 years, so not anti gaming.
