Teen boy game recommendation

As I'm a non-gamer, please could you recommend a game for a mid-teen boy? Last year one of you suggested Sea Of Thieves, which he absolutely loved! Outer Wilds went down well the year before that.

What console does he have? Some games are only available for some consoles so it's hard to recommend anything without knowing.
