My Son is Turning 7 and wants a Gaming Console PS5 , IS this a good Idea or Bad , we will be putting restrictions on and time limits he does have very full calendar of Activities for the full week ? Football, Swimming , Karate, maths and English tuition and a gym membership where he does classes and he is also leaning Punjabi cos we Indian. He is pretty good at completing his tasks. when he goes to visit cousins and friends etc he just loves to game with them and he his not into toys at all anymore, So for his Birthday he has not requested one toy.
Recently he was given a toy (WWE car thing) he opened smiled and said he was happy to give it to someone who may need it and did not even attempt to open the box. Which really surprised us. So is a PS5 ok (ps i will also play it with him i like gaming but not hardcore gaming and most of the games he will play would be 2 player games , fifa , racing games etc i would spend time with him and play together)
I would be very Grateful for your Advice. ( Please note Nintendo Switch is out of the questions as it is out of date technology he and i would get vey bored os the switch very quickly)

The switch does genuinely have better games for a kid that age, but, I do get what you mean about it being very outdated.

It's being heavily rumoured that the switch two is coming in march 2025 though. So I wouldn't recommend getting a switch one right now anyway.

With the ps5 pro launching in just a few weeks there are likely to be a lot of discounted or second hand original ps5s for sale in the run up for Xmas. Maybe a pre-owned PS5 this year and a switch 2 next year?

If you do get a PS5 I recommend astrobot, ratchet and clank, sackboys adventure, Lego 2k drive, Minecraft, and maybe Fortnite depending on how you feel about that. Ps5 also supports Roblox.

I would research all games before handing them over as most are geared for adults even if they seem kid friendly - the Spiderman games might look great fun at first (and they are! I bloody loved them) but there are guns, suicides, beheadings etc in it. They are rated 16+ for a reason.

My 7yo loves his switch and the games are great. No 7yo needs the latest tech for their first console. Plenty of time to get an Xbox or PS5 in future.
