New thread. No routes where I am. We're going to be at Pokémon Go Fest on 6 August. V excited.

I submitted three routes at the end of August and one was approved yesterday. I can see four more in the village that weren't there earlier in the week.

PickAChew · 01/11/2023 17:40

We now have 5 routes, including mine. If I'd realised, I could have tried one out with Ds2, this morning!

porridgeisbae · 01/11/2023 17:48

Ooh I checked and one of mine's been approved. Not the other 4 or 5 from around the same time yet, though.

AlmostLegendary · 02/11/2023 00:07

I would love to be able to see all the routes on a map, so I could plan an outing. I also find it incredibly hard to work out what direction they're going in and where they end if the name doesn't make it obvious.

I need to make a new friend for my current research, was wondering if any of the codes above are still active, or if I can provide mine? 9218 0317 0519

The husband and I have sent you a friend request (Uniquewyre and Uniquewyretoo)

ISaySteadyOn · 02/11/2023 06:40

@AlmostLegendary I have sent you a friend request too (GalarianPony920).

I have noticed routes popping up around me lately but haven't been able to do them yet. I will be excited for that and DD2 is too. She's taken over from DS as my main PoGo buddy. Without the needing to be fed berries of course 😁

Thank you! Research achieved and gifts sent to everyone, they're still holiday postcards at the moment, so almost feels like sending real postcards.

CelniceGoldstalker · 08/11/2023 07:04

Hi everyone, I've been playing since August and I'm just starting to get the hang of things. I've requested all the codes on the thread, I'm Timnaiomi - if anyone would like to add me my code is 918637023193

ISaySteadyOn · 08/11/2023 07:50

Just accepted your request (GalarianPony920). I sent you a gift 🙂.

Ask any questions you have. I did when I started and everyone here was lovely and helpful.

I have no idea who is who anymore, but thank you everyone for the gifts! I think I've exhausted my holiday postcard supplies now, so back to the local ones, I try to keep the slightly more interesting ones but tend to end up repeatedly sending the same few.

I seem to have accumulated quite a few fast attack and charged attack items, but I don't know the best way to use them. Should I use both on the same Pokémon? Should I teach them a new attack first, do these complement or replace other attacks?

I am currently trying to beat Giovanni and not getting very far, so trying to work out the best way to give my Pokémon a bit more oomph.

@AlmostLegendary It makes a big difference if you google the best charged and fast attack for a pokemon, and try and change/keep its current moves to the best ones.

You can also google Giovanni counters for this month, so you know which ones to power up or use the attacks on.

AlmostLegendary · 10/11/2023 22:51

I have looked at the best counters and I don't seem to have very many of them! I'm working on my Machamp but don't have much to back it up with.

porridgeisbae · 10/11/2023 23:55

@AlmostLegendary You can also do start by giving the best attacks to your highest CP pokemon, then your next highest etc.

With the Giovanni, power up your counters of the same type to the desired one maybe, i.e. you don't have an X but you have a Y (also fairy/ghost/water or whatever type.) that's a gamble though.

thirdfiddle · 11/11/2023 01:08

This November Giovanni - you're going to need two fighting types probably. What else have you got? Conkeldurr from the recent event maybe?

The "teach a new attack" (for candy + stardust) gives your Pokémon a second charged attack. Vital in battle league, less useful against team rockets though sometimes you can have a cheap attack for spamming shields and a knockout one for after. I mostly just end up using the cheap one anyway. I'd power up the pokemon as much as you can first.

The TMs just change one of your attacks. You can use those to make sure your fighting type Pokémon are using 2 x fighting type attacks. My machamp just has Counter (fast) + Cross Chop (charged), Counter does a lot of damage on its own and CC is quickish to charge.

Gio's middle Pokémon varies, so you may just need to try the battle, see what he has, then look up what attack type it's weak to and bring something with that attack in the rematch. It sometimes takes me a few tries to work out a team that will win.

AlmostLegendary · 11/11/2023 08:23

I've got a pretty good Gurdurr, but not enough candy to evolve to Conkeldurr. I might be able to organise a trade, but have a limited number of local friends, DS has had phone problems so completely missed that community day.

I have a 3 star Hariyama, but again not enough candy to power up much.My other high CP fighting types are a Sawk which seemed to be pretty useless against Giovanni and a Hitmonlee that I've not tried yet.

I think possibly I need to be a bit more patient and work on my team a bit.

SockQueen · 11/11/2023 09:40

Speaking of Giovanni, his Garchomp is absolutely battering whatever I put up against him, even if my attacks are super effective. What have any of you succeeded with?

PickAChew · 11/11/2023 09:59

He is double weak to ice so mamoswine should do the job.

porridgeisbae · 12/11/2023 12:41

@AlmostLegendary I don't bother with adding second attacks as I don't think it helps much.

PickAChew · 12/11/2023 13:15

@AlmostLegendary it's far more effective to evolve a high level makuhita caught in the wild than plough precious stardust into hariyama (unless it's a shadow one) as IV merely determines how strong a pokemon is when fully maxed out.

Concentrate on getting the typing right for the rock paper scissors of battle then refine your teams once you reach the point of having lots of everything.

Second moves can be very useful particularly for battling team leaders. When cliff(?) had larvitar I could almost take his entire team with roserade with the fireball from Community day which was great for breaking shields plus its own grass moves which ground types are weak to.

AlmostLegendary · 12/11/2023 22:52

I got there! Machamp, Jynx and Hariyama team (before I saw your message @PickAChew ). Wouldn't have made any difference as the Hariyama never got to the fight anyway, as I used Machamp, changed to Jynx and then back to Machamp and that was enough to finish him off!

I still never know whether I should prioritise 3 star or high CP, I normally seem to get one or the other and not both. 🤔 I've only caught 1 Makuhita (today) and that was total rubbish on all counts, so haven't really had the option to evolve one yet!

porridgeisbae · 12/11/2023 22:57

@AlmostLegendary Yay! Well done.

The star rating is more important, as the CP you can always improve. Though obviously both is the ideal, and a 2* one that happens to be high CP is great too.

thirdfiddle · 13/11/2023 00:37

I think there's what you prioritise when you're just starting out and don't yet have a strong team against each type, and what you prioritise longer term. There was certainly a stage where I'd power up whatever's cheapest to get to level 40-ish so i could have something to win rocket battles and raids with straight away.
Then later you have something to play with day to day and can slowly power up high IVs (3 or 4 star) to have the best team long term.
If you have someone to trade with, you can hang on to high-CP low-IV pokemon and keep trading them with each other. Eventually you'll end up with lucky high-CP pokemon which are perfect for evolving and powering up to max.

@AlmostLegendary Thirdfiddle is right- this is the best way. So if you can get someone you know to trade with you a lot, or if you have an imaginary friend.....Wink

PickAChew · 13/11/2023 11:32

It also makes a difference how common something is. Hariyama often appears in the wild, this season, so it's easy to build a fighting team. Lucario, OTOH - I've been playing from the start and still don't have one I'm thrilled with.

thirdfiddle · 13/11/2023 14:14

I don't actually have a great second fighting type after machamp. If you could have anything, what would you power up?
