Hello all!

I know nothing about this console, please help!
I'm trying to work out if one of the joycons can be used by itself as a single player controller? Googling and I'm confusing myself!
Potentially for my son but I don't think he'd use it as a big unit, by that I mean the screen with both joycons attached to it. Hope this makes sense?!

I don't know, but my son is sat next to me playing with his switch. He uses the 2 joycons but not attached to the console if that makes sense? He says that is how he prefers to play.

Also, we often play games as a family and just us 1 joycon each. The joycons are very annoying and tend to break, but they are very flexible in terms of how they can be used

Depends what game I think, my son sometimes takes the comtrollers off and uses it without them attached

I didn't know they could be used like this!
I don't know anyone with one that my son could have a go of. I'm hoping somewhere in town will have one on display for him to have a little go of

My DS has a little thing the joycons clip onto making them more like a traditional controller and therefore smaller easier to hold
