Gaming

Call of duty - modern warfare - inappropriate

Are combat games like this especially contemporary and set in urban environments inappropriate currently.

Normally quite liberal about things like this but the idea of young people in their rooms playing games like this does seem a strange thought. Do we really need desensitising against violence currently?

Possibly a limited withdrawal from sale?

There is usually war going on in some part of the world or another. Doing it in a 'pretend' way may be quite liberating for some but COD has never been suitable for young people to be fair anyway.

If the gamer doesn't understand that the game isn't real the game is too old for them.
Did you want these war games banned, even temporary, during the conflict in the Gaza, middle East, parts of Africa etc?

@Kirst26

Good point but currently the current conflict has a greater profile with global ramifications.

It just didn't sit quite well with me with a lot of the action in the games seeming potentially so close to reality ... I can't see this being great escapism?

@Canigooutyet

I think it is an argument that there are other conflicts in the world but given the gravity and proximity of this conflict would it be sensitive to limit marketing of these games at least?

I think they are too useful a marketing tool for the US military for it to be pulled.

Nope I really dont.
What about the families of people of colour who have seen their families caught up in wars and civil unrest since the first COD was released? Where was the calls to be sensitive towards those people when release g war games and films?

Perhaps we should also do the same with fallout at that is in a world after the nukes have been set off.

Video games are an escapism into another world. We need to find out own ways of escaping whatever it is.

Maybe during the beginning of the pandemic we should have also been sensitive to people and temporary banned all those films and games. But then I was very strange sitting in my room with the virus binge watching all those films and series.

I don't think it's anyone's business, you don't have to buy and play these games if it's triggering and it's not like people play them in public.

Why? That would just be controlling legal activities that people are doing in their own home. Who decides what is appropriate for people to be playing in private? It is a a very dangerous path to go down.

People still played Plague Inc. during the pandemic. I didn't see anyone calling for that to be banned.

If you don't like it don't play it. The rest of the world doesn't need censorship.

And before there was Call of Duty and the rest, little kids were making guns out of sticks and playing war games.

Banning video games is just ridiculous,

Games that aren't specific to war ok though? GTA etc fine? Games aren't real life and we all know it.
