Minecraft Dungeons HELP

DH and I are fairly clueless except what we have won't work...
DS is 9 and not very tech savvy (he has SEN) but liked playing Minecraft on my old Ipad except that he always wanted "what he saw on YouTube" to work immediately (kept mentioning The Floor is Lava and Bedwars)

We have now switched to Android. He also has an old Wii but we know that's pointless.
We are not totally averse to getting him a new device or allowing him to use my laptop (or even me getting a new laptop). But we have no idea what would be best except we know that the Switch (what a family friend has) isn't going to work much longer.
Basically, HEEEELP.

We have minecraft dungeons on Xbox. It is a pretty different game to actual minecraft. The look is the same sort of style and the mobs/monsters are the same but you work your way through different levels.

We have an Xbox and switch and both are great, expensive though. I’m not sure about minecraft dungeons on the switch but you can play normal minecraft on it. I think you need to look at the use of it(e.g. do you want it to connect to a tv, do you want it to be portable, how much you want to spend) and what games your son wants to play as this can be limited by which device you have.

You mention bed wars, this is accessed through normal minecraft. If you have a console rather than a PC the edition of minecraft is bedrock rather than Java. On consoles there are a limited amount of servers available to play including bed wars. My son is forever moaning he can’t ply the full range but honestly there’s more than enough options on the bedrock edition!

Thanks, we have been told that Dungeons is not going to be supported any more on the Switch and we aren't sure about an Xbox yet because of the games ,- the old Wii games are nice and tame.
I think it might be better to play on a TV BUT he's more likely to use a PC for other things.
It's so hard!

Ooh and can you also explain how Hide and Seek works?

LindaLooky · 04/11/2021 19:42

My ds7 plays minecraft on the switch (not the dungeons version). As the other poster says, he can go onto a public server through that game and play bedwars.

I'm only aware of "floor is lava" on roblox, but I dont let mine play roblox these days as too many incredibly odd violent games. You can play roblox on any device, PC phone, ipad, console.

If you tell us the youtube videos he is picking up on we can help more I think

LindaLooky · 04/11/2021 19:43

Hide and seek is on roblox too.

drspouse · 04/11/2021 22:00

He's got quite into Jelly and the last few have been SB737.
I think we might be more likely to get him a Switch.

Switch is a good console. You can access online servers via minecraft and play loads of games such as bedwars. You need nintendo online membership to do so and that is £18 per year.

My DS loves all the mario games too after being a minecraft obsessive for a couple of years!

drspouse · 04/11/2021 22:47

DS loves Mario on the Wii!

If you have a game pass on the Xbox you can get minecraft and minecraft dungeons for free I’m pretty sure that works or you could just get an Xbox voucher and use it to buy the games

KingVoid · 12/11/2021 18:36

Also how do you make a thread 😬 I’m on phone on the website

Pokemonpoolparty · 12/11/2021 19:11

Wait, what?! Does this mean they can't play minecraft dungeons on the switch anymore?! Is it just dungeons or all minecraft?!

I'm panicking now if the kids can't play minecraft on the switch.

drspouse · 12/11/2021 20:03

You can still play Minecraft Dungeons on the Switch, they just wont' be updating it any more.

I have another question.
Ahead of Christmas I got an Xbox subscription for £1/month on my PC.
I got a book to do some simple coding and it says "You will need a full version of Minecraft not just the X-box version". Is the version that's called Minecraft for Windows 10 (but comes with the X-box gamepass) the Full Version or not???

I'm curious as to why you think the seasonal updates won't be available on the switch as they absolutely will! spookier falls updated no problem and the new Tower and cloudy climb will be coming in December as well. Don't worry!

scully29 · 12/11/2021 20:09

We have minecraft dungeons on the xbox up to the tv, and minecraft education pack on the laptop for coding. Minecraft is amazing although i have no understanding of it all.

drspouse · 12/11/2021 20:16

I think I must have been misinformed then! This was from some friends whose DS has been playing Dungeons on the Switch for quite a while.

My 9yo Ds play Minecraft Dungeons on Switch and it’s already a big enough game to not require any further expansions. It’s not a game you need to play online so lack of updates really won’t make a difference. My ds absolutely Minecraft obsessed- he has 90 minutes screen time most days and has only been playing that game since he got it for Christmas.

Munxx · 12/11/2021 20:32

I would disagree with Dungeons base game being fairly big as without the DLC packs there are only nine levels. The seasonal updates will have free content though. My son plays, but I do as well, and we are requiring more challenge! It's a fabulous game as you constantly change up your play style as you level up, the choices of armour and weapons make it interesting. Do make sure that once you have completed default you go and collect all the runes to open the secret level too! You'll need to get onto apocalypse to really get the good weapons. In order to gain full camp privileges you need to find all the village merchants too. I'd advise buying the ultimate edition as it has all the DLCs and completed the story of the Arch Illager. You can play up to four players local multiplayer too. Enjoy!

scully29 · 12/11/2021 21:34

yes you need the ultimate edition and I would say you need those upgrades from what my ds says, he loves hearing of upgrades coming.

Pokemonpoolparty · 13/11/2021 10:12

Phew. Dungeons is quite a small game, my kids completed it quite quickly (in lockdown to be fair!). You definitely need the DLC. Mine still like to play it online and co-op together.

The switch version of minecraft isn't as good as the desktop version by all accounts. But it depends what your DC wants to do and how technical they want to get with it.

If your DC enjoys the simplicity of the Wii, they will love the switch.

I think it’s the full version u need
WeMazeUp · 14/11/2021 22:20

The windows is the full version

FissionMailed · 14/11/2021 22:23

Xbox Series S if you can get one.

They're only £250, which compared to other devices is very cheap.
It has Gamepass, that has mine craft and Minecraft Dungeons and it cost little for access.to hundreds of games.

drspouse · 15/11/2021 11:03

Ah, it turns out that it's all changed and we need the Education edition to do coding at all in 2021.
I'm investigating if I can get this without paying £££.
