So I haven’t seen many lovers of board games here so If there any please let me know.

I’m new to board games hobby, started last year during quarantine looking for something to play with my son and ended falling in love with so many beautiful games. My soon to be seven year old and my husband are my mine gaming partners and we play gateway games.

We play catan, ticket to riđe, Santorini, smallworld, splendor, carcassone, azul, kingdomino, dream home, for sale, love letter, enchanted tower, rummikub, Patchwork, seven wonders duel, forbidden Island.

We have just bought everdell and plan to play it this weekend.

So what are your favorite board games and how does it work in your family if you like playing board games.

It's just me and dh so a lot of our games are two players. Favourite is pandemic (we've just finished all their legacy games), munchkins if we want something nice and easy and horrified.

We've just bought a new game called the captain is dead which is really fun.

We also have my city, time stories (as yet unplayed), gloomhaven, rivals for catan and its expansions, plague Inc, pandemic rapid response, ticket to ride, rummikib. Century (spice Road and Eastern wonders), Istanbul (dice and Big box editions), 7 wonders.

We also really enjoy the exit escape games

We play a lot of board/card games too. Dungeon Mayhem is a favourite at the moment, and Zombie Kidz. I have a big soft spot for Bandido too, so quick and easy to pick up and play. We haven't got into the longer/more involved games recently as I think we overdosed in lockdown :-) We have Catan and Ticket to Ride etc. And love going to Games Expo to see new/kickstarter games as well.

As a family we actually like some of the classics, monopoly and scrabble. Yahtzee is fun.

Twoforthree · 15/06/2021 08:10

Not a board game, but uno is a family favourite.

My kids are young adults now but we still play junior monopoly (funfair edition) purely because it’s a much quicker version of the real thing.

kavalkada · 15/06/2021 08:12

I love scrabble, yahtzee and risk, but if I never play a game of monopoly in my life, I’ll be a happy woman.

I have ordered zombie kids for my son’s birthday. I hope it will be as good as all reviews say

A lot of ours have been named already but Tiny Epic Galaxies and House on Haunted Hill (might be a bit scary for an 8 year old) are favourites in this house. I just bought Villainous for DP for fathers day, looking forward to playing that!

Bluey18 · 15/06/2021 08:21

Sorry that should have said Betrayal at House on the Hill, I mixed it up with the show (the show is definitely too scary for an 8 year old 😅)

Fanofcrisps · 15/06/2021 08:22

We like Dixit, my dsc are 10 and 13 but I think it's 8+

Sp1ke3 · 15/06/2021 08:23

We really enjoy playing Tiny Towns. It’s a good strategy game but annoyingly my daughter always beats me! Her Dad refuses to play anything but Scrabble. I’m hoping our board game cafe has survived the pandemic.

Lowlifeinhighplaces · 15/06/2021 08:30

We have a few of the above enjoying TTR (and just signed up for Ticket to Ride online),

But the current favourite is Sequence.

Whatalottachocca · 15/06/2021 08:37

Another vote for Sequence. We also love Cluedo, Rummikub Word, Bananagrams, Dobble & The Really Nasty Horse Racing Game.

Redsquirrel5 · 15/06/2021 08:40

Mandarin is a good one.

UpHillandDownAle · 15/06/2021 09:41

Sequence is great, also barenpark.
Snakes & bladdered is also great for an alcohol filled party Wink.

Nellodee · 18/06/2021 14:02

We play
King of Tokyo
Camel Up
Kingdomino
Love letters
Sushi Go
Dominion
Catan
Jaipur
Rhino hero
Animal upon animal

OssieShowman · 18/06/2021 14:09

New card game - Uno Flip is fun. And Qwirkle, a board game is good.

Twoforthree · 18/06/2021 23:09

Yes, the really nasty horse racing game, is fun.

kavalkada · 19/06/2021 08:03

I love Quirkle (but I'm the only one in my family so waiting for my two year old to grow up).

Those of you who have small kids and like board games what do you do to teach them. At the moment I play with my two year old with pieces of Quirkle, Carcassonne and Kingdomino. I like to dream that she'll became proficient board gamer by the time she is four (kidding my self).

We got Enchanted Tower for Christmas (the most beautiful board game for little children in the world) and I can't wait till she is old enough to play it.
