Anyone else concerned about some of the sinister games that are put out by Roblox gaming industry for our children to play?
Just had a look at some of the games, which includes:
"Survive the night in Roblox Horror Daycare", which has a creepy picture with bloodied clothing and scared looking children.
"We're trapped in Roblox Piggy Mall", which has a weird pig brandishing a knife, with a scared little girl stuck in a vending machine!
"Survive the killer" which has man in a mask brandishing a knife! Other games include:
"Tower of Hell", "Corridor of Hell", "Horror Portals", "Carnival of Terror", to name just a few. Is this really ok, and is it just being normalised? Appreciate to hear your views on this. Thanks in advance.

Hi op, I can see your post.

How old are your DC? Just sitting here with my 17 and 15 year old who are long term Roblox players and they both say that as an example, Tower of Hell is simply an obstacle course, nothing scary but depending on ages, some games might be unsuitable if particularly young children. My 17 yo says they are "made within the Roblox guidelines" but I don't really understand what the parameters are, personally. DD says there are "games with blood in them but the option to turn off the blood" Shock but also in case you weren't aware Roblox is a platform where account users make games not the Roblox corporation, so made by the players. I'm also fairly reliably informed that Roblox can ban and censor games according to DD. Roblox have quite a large moderation team.
Parental controls can be set up in the settings, says DS.

If you think the games are inappropriate don't let your child play Roblox 🤷‍♀️

Cocoabutterkim · 12/02/2021 14:15

I don’t think all the games are appropriate for primary ages dc. You can restrict dc accounts to roblox approved content only, which limits the more suspect elements of the platform

Louisa111 · 16/02/2021 10:33

I'm finding this too. I really don't like the piggy game and I don't feel it's appropriate for anyone under 14 if I'm honest . It's a shame as my daughter loves some games on roblox but I'm thinking of taking her off of it

Just picked up a free magazine (EAT THEM TO DEFEAT THEM) for children from Asda yesterday, which is being used to promote eating veg. I thought that it was an old copy from Halloween, but was shocked to see that it was a current edition. It has some very scary veg inside and a lot of shocking wording, such as "Evil Inside", "Slice it up nice", "Bite and suck out its insides" etc... This refers to a tomato that has an evil looking face. I found it to be quite scary and feel that there is a lot of hidden connotations in here. What are we being pushed towards? Look around you and ask yourself some questions, for the safety of our children!

Hi Louisa111. I really don't like it either and want to take my daughter off it, but is difficult with lockdown, as she is connecting with friends, which she cannot do otherwise. Hopefully, back to school will make a difference.

It's banned in my house. I've seen some disgusting things on that game, it should be banned.

My ds plays Roblox but some of the games on there are just wrong, he has quite a long list of banned games I can tell you!
What I don't like is the fact people are allowed to make up games where you actively go round stabbing other players! I think it's a disgusting theme for games and shocked it's allowed.
Some are innocent yes, floor is lava etc but you always get the wronguns making these violent games that always get stumbled upon.

I honestly wish my ds never discovered Roblox, he has asd so gets quite obsessive about it and I have strict time limits etc in place but at the same time, what else can they do while stuck in lockdown? Can't wait for the schools to go back

Thanks for your feedback. I find it deeply disturbing also and find it hard to believe that they would promote burning houses, stabbing people etc......It is so not necessary! There should be more control around this and it should NOT be allowed. I am not going to allow my child to play this game any longer as it is just supporting this type of behaviour and normalising it.
Having had any associations with it now discusts me.

My 8yo is addicted to roblox, she uses royal high and adopt me so quite girly games. Never had an issue with content. She scares very easily and I've never had an issue.

Maybe games aimed at boys are more inappropriate?

CoffeeWithCheese · 14/03/2021 09:30

Mine are on with the limitations of an under 13 account - schoolfriends' parents haven't set up the same safeguards and the kids do get onto more stuff. It's a constant battle with DD's friend trying to get us to take the block on the 13+ stuff off - but DD has pretty well accepted it.

Tower of Hell I have no issues with - it's a jumping obstacle course.

Rules are anything online gets done in the shared areas of the house so we can keep an ear on what's going on.

Sarah Roberts do you perhaps work for Roblox? Hmm

EggyPegg · 31/03/2021 19:43

Like a PP, my children play it with the Restricted filter on. Against my better judgement I took it off for them once. I didn't like the games at all. Particularly the Piggy one and the evil granny one. So the filter went back on.

They do bleat about it occasionally as other parents are more relaxed, but they know that it's filtered Roblox or no Roblox.

Some of the games on there are quite good fun and harmless. It would be unfair to ban the whole thing based on a few age inappropriate games.

I also have all chat features blocked and regularly check to make sure they're not adding friends. They are only allowed to add friends that I know (like their cousin and the boy next door).

EggyPegg · 31/03/2021 19:43

@SarahRoberts1278, are you a parent or a child who enjoys playing Roblox?
