I have been playing since the summer, just finished and then stated again and I'm getting a bit frustrated with myself about how much I've forgotten

Anyone else play quite a bit?

which Zelda game are you playing, BOTW?

KatyMac · 23/01/2021 19:20

Yes with the extension pack

My DS has played it a lot over the last 3 years and I admit I just love watching him as I suck at gaming, I'm always at his shoulder asking could you just check over there with the magnisis or I think that looks like a great spot for a korok! He's completed the DLC extension packs and has defeated Ganon numerous times, he's done all the shrines but still has about 200 koroks to find before he can say he has 100% finished the game. He would happily chat about BOTW any day of the week and asked if there is anything he can help you with.

KatyMac · 24/01/2021 13:17

I've found all the shrines and killed Gannon once (the divine beasts twice) - I thought the game ended after that

I started again with another profile and I am hoping to do all the side quests and Korak seeds this time before I do Gannon

I was a bit disappointed by the Gannon fight

We were disappointed with the Ganon fight too, DS was hoping for a straight up 1 v 1 sword fight with him. Since beating Ganon the first time he's gone back to do it more and more crazy ways, like with no armour or with weak weapons. He's been doing lots of cooking to give extra hearts and stamina. He says his best dish for great attack up is 1 x shard of any dragon horn, 3 x mighty bananas and 1 mighty thistle. It is such a great game, we can get lost in it for ages just wandering around looking for ore and hidden chests. Another nice tip is to fully finish Link's house in Hateno, once you've paid for all the possible options the finished inside of the house looks great. Also once you complete the Tarry Town side quest you get 3 diamonds.

KatyMac · 24/01/2021 17:44

Oh I cant get any weapons to stay at links house!

Working on Tarry Town atm & I love the korok mask I got it early the second time - massive help!

OP posts:
hernameis · 24/01/2021 17:54

Wonder why the weapons won't stay in his house? Obvious things to check first, have you bought the house as I know you can just view it too, if you have already bought it are you using the correct weapon holder (eg bows, or sword or shield holders). The Korok mask is a great help, also if you want to ignore a lot of combat try and get the Majora mask, it's with the DLC pack, go to the Kolomo Garrison ruins in central Hyrule, hopefully this link might descibe it better www.polygon.com/zelda-breath-of-the-wild-guide-walkthrough/2017/6/30/15904180/majoras-mask-find-location-the-master-trials-dlc-lake-kolomo-garrison-ruins-treasure-chest-ex

KatyMac · 24/01/2021 18:59

I got that last time, but i didn't use it- ill look for it again this time thanks

Yes I bought the house for 3000 plus wood and I have paid for weapon cupboards Sad

I am about to use searching for treasure chests with the sensor thing as I think that might help

another quick tip is to specifically kill white/silver maned lynols for the best weapons. We have noticed that some of our weapons in Links house have lost some of their modifiers eg attack up plus 15 but we've never had a weapon disappear. That must be very frustrating. We are playing on our old wiiU so maybe this is a Switch glitch?

DS loves blowing enemies off cliffs with a simple korok leaf, he also recommends getting the barbarian armour as it gives you a great attack up, you can find this in each chest once you complete each labyrinth (3 in total).

scissy · 25/01/2021 13:53

I didn't realise you could go back to your save file after the Ganon fight so on my first play through I completed ALL the shrines first ShockGrin. You can go back to your save file and it will tell you how much of the game you have completed (after the Ganon fight). Some challenges which are quite fun: finding all the dog treasures (this is its own speed-run category, the record is approx 90 mins) or doing all the side quests.
Losing the buffs on weapons put in the holders in link's house is a known thing so it's recommended that you only put weapons without them in there, but I haven't had the missing weapons issue (I'm playing on the switch).
I second the recommendation for getting the korok mask if you want to hunt korok seeds, if you own the DLC you can find it somewhere in the Korok forest.

KatyMac · 25/01/2021 22:06

I didnt know it could tellyou how far you have got or what you are missing! How do you do that?

I hate fighting lyonals!!

OP posts:
hernameis · 26/01/2021 02:36

We can't get the dog treasure hunt to work, ds fed multiple dogs in the stables and they just follow him around. A good way of killing lyonels is to shoot them in the face with a multi shot bow then mount it (it doesn't drain weapon durability when you're riding it)

KatyMac · 26/01/2021 07:26

I think you have to fred it the right number of things (possible 4 apples or 3 meat? Cant remember sorry) then run around the dog once or twice until you get the same effect as you get when you pat the horse

OP posts:
scissy · 28/01/2021 19:39

@hernameis you can tame a dog with 4 apples or 3 pieces of meat. You'll know it's working as you'll see pink circles appear sounds the dog as it gets "tamed". It can be frustrating though as dogs eating food can be extremely slow so you may need more than 4 apples for it to work, also sometimes the dog doesn't register that you've dropped the food in front of them so you have to pick it up and try again Hmm. Also, not all dogs spawn treasure so you may have been unlucky. Guess who was trying to get the dog treasure in Tarrey Town last night and befriended the correct dog last (I don't recommend this location as your first one!!)

hernameis · 28/01/2021 21:51

Thanks, I will try it out again tonight! If nothing else there will be some well fed dogs in Hyrule

KatyMac · 28/01/2021 21:51

I working at 3 levels atm

My finished Ganton one with lots of bells and whistles
My new user one that I'm trying to do koroks and shrines with a few helpful bits & pieces like the stasis plus and the korok mask
And coaching my DH (68) from the very beginning and he pretty much hasn't played any games before AND he has his left and right/ up and down the wrong way round to me (aarrghhh!l

Its very confusing - I go to use a weapon or rune that isn't there!

OP posts:
scissy · 28/01/2021 22:59

Oh and whoever asked about seeing the completion stats..

Once you have completed Ganon, a star appears against your save file and your 100% completion status becomes visible for that file. Also if you visit Kilton, he will inform you of extra stats Grin

KatyMac · 29/01/2021 20:20

Ok I have gone back in to the old one and I am working my my through all the quests

Finding korak seeds in the castle is hard!

OP posts:
hernameis · 29/01/2021 21:41

DS and I have spent all morning doing the dog treasure hunt with great success so thanks to you both for the tips! Re korok seeds in the castle apparently there are about 25 there altogether! We haven't found that many there yet though....

scissy · 30/01/2021 20:36

There are Korok seeds near/at the top of the 4 main cities in Hyrule + Hyrule Castle Wink if you haven't found them already. Always good for some in game photos!
