PS4 extendable memory?

Son wants a PS4 pro for Christmas can't find one anywhere but the PS4 500gb loads of.

Has anyone just run an external hard drive to extend the memory? If so which one and does the game play work just as well?

It's very common to use an external harddrive. It's very easy to set up- connect to the PS4 via USB and go to the settings and format the drive so it's PS4 compatible

Both of my ds use external harddrive Seagate and WD I think?

A PS4 Pro is significantly more powerful and capable system than a regular PS4, especially given the imminent release of the PS5, the extra power of the PS4 Pro would be more useful going forward.
