Microphone help for Xbox please.

I have bought DS a couple of headphone sets with the attached microphones, the dogs have managed to eat the microphone pieces. The replacement microphones haven’t fitted, seems to be a common problem with the headset I bought. DS thinks I can buy a separate microphone that will just sit near him. Is this possible? Will I be able to connect a separate headphones and microphone? Sorry I am the most clueless person on gaming stuff, but I have in the past bought the wrong accessories for his games so don’t want an expensive mistake. Thanks

Have they got a Kinect? That can be used as the microphone.

There's a 3.5mm headphones socket on the Xbox controller. They can plug any phone headset into that and set the xbox to use the mic - see www.polygon.com/2016/2/28/11129974/xbox-one-controller-apple-earpod-earbud-headphones-buzzing-noise-fix

Tip for the future: Only buy from places you can return stuff to, if it's the wrong thing.

The ones I got him are afterglow, AG9, the reviews of the replacement piece all say it doesn’t fit. He likes the over ear ones, so wouldn’t use the in ear ones, he has sensory issues.
