My daughter has been playing Minecraft PE, from her iPhone, the last couple of years or so.
Her friends play Java desktop PC versions.
I do understand that these two versions are still incompatible, sadly, but I’m trying to find a way to help her to play somehow.

Could she transfer her worlds and skin etc, to a desktop Java version for Mac, for example (we have an iMac) and if so, can a player on Java for Mac then multiplayer with a player on Java for PC?

She has some great worlds on her iPhone, so I should reluctant to cancel the lot and set up a new account on Java, without knowing how and if she can transfer stuff across.

TIA you’ll make my day if you can tell me what to do 💐

If this thread doesn't give you the answer, then join the forum and ask a new question yourself. The people here are very helpful. Reddit is a great resource in general.

Thanks! Coincidentally, I tried doing just that last night, it couldn’t get Reddit to work...all too tecchy for me...😁

Ok so I’ve now downloaded Java edition on our iMac for her to play. Abandoned the idea of trying to transfer her old worlds etc, as it was too complex for my tired brain.
She has a brand new account on Java.
But how on earth does she add friends?
I’ve clicked on Multiplayer, but unlike the iOS iPhone version, there is no Join Friend tab or anything like it, only AddServer! Help!

Reddit's not techy! Just join up...find the right subreddit and post.

Honestly OP...for technical things, it's the best. Full of 16 year old tech whizzes who know their stuff.

For multiplayer on Java you either need to be on the same network like in the same house or someone has to set up a server to run Minecraft which everyone then connects to. It can be a massive pita but some googling can help. It's not as straightforward as connect to x and play. There are Realms which are paid-for servers you can rent.
That's where the console and iOS versions shine as they are cross compatible. Add a friend and play - downside is playing remotely also requires a server which coincidentally you can pay for a realm too like in Java
