Minecraft - Help with a quick problem!

6 yo DS has started playing Minecraft this week, and in his second created world a load of people have just popped up. He's freaking out! How do I get rid of them? In his first world he was just on his own and could build in peace.

I've tried to Google and TBH can't easily find the answer. I'm sure it's just a setting change, can anyone who knows Minecraft help?

PS We're on the iPad version

Go into the settings for the world and turn off multiplayer.

Are you sure they're other real people players and not "Villagers"?

Iggi999 · 12/06/2020 15:10

If they are real people, rather than villagers who are just part of the game like the animals, won't they have a name next to them on the screen?
Don't use iPad for this so I might be wrong

UncleMatthewsEntrenchingTool · 12/06/2020 15:12

If they are villagers you can turn off mob spawning in settings

sleepyhead · 12/06/2020 15:21

Also, they might be zombies or skeletons which can kill you if you're in "Survival" mode.

He can switch them off by either changing to Creative (they'll still be there but they can't hurt him), or stay in Survival but change the settings to "Peaceful".

ritzbiscuits · 12/06/2020 18:22

Thanks so much for responding. I think they're villagers, they're nothing scary like zombies. I think they just freaked him out.

Is that just the mob setting I need to look at then?

BTW we are in Creative mode, and I think Peaceful setting, so was surprised they've turned up!

It sounds like his first world was created in "creative" mode and his second world could be "survival" mode.. you can just switch it on the front page. Think you do get villagers in creative still but they're harmless you can just ignore them Smile

sleepyhead · 12/06/2020 18:29

It's fairly rare for them to just turn up. They're usually only in villages which aren't very common in the game.

Has he been playing with the eggs the let you spawn various creatures? (From cats to parrots via dolphins, zombies and villagers)? Ds2 sometimes goes a bit nuts with these and we end up with a bat plague or similar.

sleepyhead · 12/06/2020 18:32

You can get rid of them by "killing" them Blush

BertieBotts · 12/06/2020 18:32

If they are villagers the game will have created a few houses as their "village". He should just move away and do his building somewhere else. The villagers will stay in their village and not bother him.

BertieBotts · 12/06/2020 18:34

It sounds like his spawn point (the location he jumped into the game) just happened to be near a village.

Hippofrog · 12/06/2020 18:36

Can I ask a quick one please. Who is Steve my DS keeps taking about minecraft Steve?

sleepyhead · 12/06/2020 18:42

Steve is the default character "skin" that you assume (you can be Steve or Alex).

Hippofrog · 12/06/2020 18:47

Thank you!

ritzbiscuits · 13/06/2020 07:06

Thanks so much. The original problem was he'd created a world in survival mode. It scared him as he thought Minecraft was just for building!

He's now definitely in creative mode, so at worst they are just villagers we can ignore/move away from!

The only other question I have is if anyone knows how to get out of a deep hole. He's currently had to abandon his first world as he dug too deep.

And thanks again, with Switch games I have no issue, but I just can't understand Minecraft and it's controls.

SpideyMom · 13/06/2020 08:54

same, I'm watching this thread as I don't get Minecraft controls too. My DS loves it but I'm not sure he is playing it properly, and I have no clue how to do it lol. I've noted about the other people and who they are

sleepyhead · 13/06/2020 10:06

He needs to learn how to fly. We have Android devices and on them you double tap the jump button on the right hand side of the screen and it changes so you can go up and down.

If he was in survival he would have to laboriously dig himself a stair up the way. (I've lived through the minecraft obsessions of 2 dcs, several years apart and will admit that the original account was mine and I played it a LOT and got into many deep holes before creative was really a thing Grin)

Lonelycrab · 13/06/2020 10:22

Lol at the digging a deep hole, my ds did this in the first ten minutes and was crying his eyes out poor lad. To fly, double tap space bar or whatever button makes you jump. Hold to go higher, double tap again to fall.

BertieBotts · 13/06/2020 17:49

Haha, yes, you can dig out of a hole by sort of digging upwards in stairs. Or double tap spacebar in creative to fly.

GeraltOfRivia · 13/06/2020 17:54

I play Minecraft with my kids, until they start getting ridiculous. It's a really nice having a game we can all play and it be really even. The kids are on their iPads and I'm on my Xbox.

slipperywhensparticus · 13/06/2020 17:58

I got stuck in a hole too my four year old had to get me out of it Hmm

ritzbiscuits · 13/06/2020 22:27

Thanks! I'll pass on the message about flying. He got carried away building an underground labyrinth then couldn't get out!

I really feel there is a gap in the the market for mums giving Minecraft help....anyone fancy setting up a You Tube channel? Grin
