Switch blue joycon going the wrong direction

Ok I am a total novice in gaming plus we're abroad so I may get some terms wrong! Blush

When playing Minecraft (and only Minecraft apparently) my son's left (blue) joy con isn't working properly- when he wants to move left it goes right and up goes down. It only appears to be that which is wrong.

Ive gone into settings and reset to default but it hasn't helped.

Google is useless.

Any ideas? He's so frustrated and doesn't want to play anymore which is a shame as he was just getting into it.

It's not 'joycon drift' is it? (Google search)

Otherwise it seems as if the buttons have been matched up wrong.

Is it an official Nintendo switch handset?

I think it's part of the joycon drift problem. Nintendo know about it. If you contact them they'll tell you to send it back for repairs (you'll have to pay the postage) and you'll get a new one back. It took about 10 days pre-Covid.

Also, Is the handset the right way up?

The rotating stick should be at the top on the left handset with the 4 buttons beneath it. But the other way around on the right handset.

If you have detached them from the mane console and put the little wristlet things on, you may have put the left wrist bracelet part on wrong so you are holding the handset the wrong way round. Make sure you have the two minuses together on one side and two plus signs on the other handset.

*main console

If you go to System Settings, Controllers and Sensors, Change Button Mapping - this is where you can change what the controller buttons and sticks do. Clear any Minecraft settings out of there.

Thanks I'll have a look at those. It is the official handsets that came with the swich. Not used with wrist straps but the black handheld controller thingy (technical! In French its the manette). Its definitely in the right way up and he was playing woth it fine last Friday then suddenly it stopped going the right direction

Make sure by clipping them back onto the Switch body and testing there too. Controller with the minus (-) on the left, (+) on the right.
